sellers defect ratings

If I refund the buyer without the use of the resolution centre, THEN go to the resolution centre to agree a cancellation based on "other" reason will that count in the DSR's? I'm thinking about getting eBay charges back here. Or would it be safer to write off their charges?

You need to just select the reason that the sale is being refunded.

If it s a returned item, select that.

I know, but that would count as a defect wouldn't it?

Well why is the order being refunded? Is it being returned or are you out of stock?

Just tick customer purchased the item by mistake - its always worked for me and has never counted against me.

One time I refunded almost 20 purchases using this and it never appeared in my metrics

if you're willing to take a small hit and are desperate to keep your defect rate down you can send the refund as a seperate payment instead of an actual refund. Most buyers wouldnt notice the difference but you wouldn't get a defect. If you refund an order for ANY reason other than "buyer changed mind" then you get a defect

This is a dangerous practice.

The buyer could then open a SNAD or INR case and receive a second refund.

The official way is to open a cancel transaction request in the resolution centre. Select any reason except out of stock or sold to someone else. Once the case is open, go to paypal and refund. You will not get a defect that way.

That about does it I think. Just to clarify, by putting "other reason" I am safe from getting a defect right?

You must choose that the buyer wanted to cancel order or else it will count buddy.

All options I know of the seller loses. I don't return original postage if they get the wrong size or unsuitable or bought in error.

Option A - In the resolution centre, buyer asked to cancel order option allows a refund in full only - postage lost (usually £5). Lose £5, don't get hit with defect

Option B - don't process return, take the hit on a FVF (which is slightly more than £5) and complete a partial refund through paypal. Lose FVF don't get hit with defect

Option C - Ask the buyer to process the return on their end due to their incompetence - get hit with defect but correct way of processing !!!
