Paypal 14 days payment old

I noticed that on every item sold, my payment is held by either of ebay/paypal for is it 14 days? Is this how it operates or would their be a time when I will be able to receive that payment instantly without the usual 14 days hold?

In time the holds will be dropped.

normally 21 days but it drops after a few months
