Defect rate
 

Hi

I'm close to 8 defects on an acc that is a few months old..Will this knock me below standard and if so what are the consequences.. Has anyone got there acc back in good standing?/

Very good possibility of the selling privileges on that account being revoked.
I don't think theres any coming back from that since youre not able to sell successfully to get back in the green.
Better start opening some backup stealth accounts.

How many total sales?
It is simply math. 8 defects if you have thousands of sales is no bid deal. If you have ten sales, well, it makes a big difference.

Exactly. But since he says the account is only a few months old, we can assume he has relatively few sales.

In order for a seller to be Top Rated, less than 2.5% of their sales can have defects. In order to keep an eBay account, you must generally keep the defect rate at under 5%. You MAY get a warning, depending on what the defects ARE. But it sounds bad for a newer account to have 8 defects. Because if it has 100 sales, then that is an 8% defect rate. For the OP to be at the cutoff rate of 5%, he needs 160 sales on his account.

So, unless the OP has more than 160 sales, it does not look very good.

I would try to figure out what exactly is causing the defect rate to be so high and then fix the problem. Because if they keep doing things the same way, then any new accounts created will face the same problem.

I am thinking of this option but I would like the supermembers to tell me if this idea is wrong.

For such account, I would advise that you stop selling effectively from the time you are reading this message. Instead, look for items that sell in volume from a seller with strong feedbacks. Then create a few listing of these items on your own which you wont stock but dropship from the good seller directly to your own buyers. Make sure they are low cost items so you dont have to pay much commission. Also, make sure you can undercut the top rated seller by selling yours at a small discount.

In theory you wont be making any money but will be paying ebay commission and loosing a few quid on each item and in return you will be getting good feedbacks and you are likely to get back in the green before the next seller standard rating is updated.

Could anyone tell me if my theory is wrong or where it is flawed?
