Confused about Royal Mail Prices.
 

Has you are all aware that Royal Mail Prices have gone way up that it is hurting the postage costs.

Already I am offering free postage on eBay.
Buyers are not willing to pay for postage, even though the right price is quoted.

All of my parcels are sent with alternative cheaper courier which works out better. For small items, Royal Mail works out cheaper.

Recently, a trip down to post office is getting more expensive.

I am sending a large letter that normally cost
1st class 93p and 2st class 73p the weight 100g

My package weighs around during 100g, maybe 103g.
So the postage should cost 93p or 73p


My post office is charging me £1.17 for 2st class with 250g
But my package is small large letter with 100g weight.

Are these prices right or my post office is ripping me off?

I can buy postage online but that would a lot of time.

What's the best way around this.

for large letter, more then 100g has different price then less then 100gm

Royal mail business account
1st class 70p and 2st class 60p the weight 100g

You mention it takes time, for above you would have to seperate the weights in each bag and then log on to your business aco**** and print off. You do the work then see the savings. The more you spend the cost of the service you use does get cheaper.

Buy stamps and do it yourself nearly always the easiest way to do it with small stuff, as the PO staff can be pretty clueless at times.

Today..I pointed out to the Post Office about the weight of the item. They were speechless! I told them, you are charging me incorrectly.
I don't think I would get any more issues from the Post Office after I gave them peace of mind.

I am just going to do it myself from now on

I have handling over 300 small packets a week.

Have i got this right eternity?
If an envelope with item inside weighs 100g the Post Office charge you 73p or 93p.
BUT if it weighs 103g they charge you £1.17.
Have i got this right?

I'd be careful if this what is happening as they post office is correct with it's charges.

Is there anyway you can trim down the size of the envelope so it only weighs 100g or less? or get a different shaped envelope?
What shape or size is the item you are selling? Does it fill the whole envelope?

If you don't have the right stamp on it your customers could end up with a bill of £1.50 that the postman will ask for when they receive it.

Is there anyway you can trim down the size of the envelope so it only weighs 100g or less? or get a different shaped lighter weighing envelope?
What shape or size is the item you are selling? Does it fill the whole envelope?
Do you use bubble wrap padded envelopes or ordinary envelopes?

If it goes over 100g you can no longer put a stamp on it as price goes to £1.17, even if it's 101g. I sell items that are around 55g and put stamps on them and when a buyer buys 2 I put that order to one side and end of the day have a bag full with stamps on and bag full for post office to process. If a buyer buys 5 from me it's still £1.17 and that's where I save lots on postage. If you stick a stamp on them and there over 101g buyer will not receive package for over a week then will get card saying to pick it up and pay postage. They will get charged the 43p difference and £1 handling fee. Happened to me a while back caused a lot of problems.

I put a discount on my eBay listings that gives buyer 5-10% discount when they buy 4 or 5 from me. This encourages them to purchase in bulk for discount and saves them about 75p but saves me 3-4 x the cost of a stamp if I sent them separate. Works out a lot at the end of the week.

Just wondered do you know where the extra weight comes from, is it the envelopes or the product?

I recall one seller that sold discs from one supplier, so they should have been identical, but for some reason one would cost him one amount and the other would jump up massively to five pound and I think the buyer complaints killed him for over charging on postage, as I he stopped using the post office we both used, unless he went off with the other one who did charity work so they could get use of their franking machine and the beauty of that not showing postage prices.

I still struggle to understand why buyers seem to have no value on postage unless they want to return something and then they demand return postage costs.
