Seller standard and suspension

Right, I'm going to throw this on out there again:

If my seller standard falls below average and has been there for 2 months or so, hovering between 6-7% and I know for a fact that other members of my family have eBay accounts registered for the same address, because we all live together.
Could I just pay the last invoice and close the account, without getting suspended, thus saving everybody elses accounts? OR, can they suspend me even AFTER I close my account?

Also, once I close my account myself and avoid the automatic suspension, can I then reopen it in the future?

You cant close an account that is below standard.

Seriously? How come?
So instead of eBay allowing people to bow out and admit they can't handle it, they'd rather wait and banhammer them? how rude.

This is what I would do. Stop selling on the account with immediate effect. Then go find cheap stuff worth less than 0.50p or max 0.90p. There are quite a lot of them on ebay. Use your 100 limit or whatever is remaining to sell those stuff only to rack up more good feedbacks. You'll harldly receive any more defects if you perfect it. You might be lucky your next evaluation will take you out of red.

People would just close their accounts and open a new one at the first sign of trouble.

The seller metrics are there to ban those who fall below their standard. If you cant sell to the required standads they don't want you selling at all.

Yeah, that's basics. I've not had any defects for about 90 days and I'm almost back from the horrible red. The red just gives me this horrible feeling of waking up with banned account. Has happened before so I hate the feeling. I have a 75 item limit so I'll probably sell 50 £1 items that I know are worth more than that, just to make sure that next month I will make it back to green 100%.
Just annoying, that's all.
