Default Insurance ?

Hi
In my journey from hobby to business seller I have just thought about insurance - is it needed/advisably to have some form of insurance cover in case a buyer hurts themselves with something you sell them ? If so can anyone please advise me of a good deal ?

You would need to keep the proper legal advise on this.

Welcome to the forums - you should speak to a business consultant...perhaps even bank financial advisor for small businesses.

Like the others said your question is a bit out of the scope of the forums. Best of luck

if you manufacture your own goods, it would be a good idea.

I do not think most regular sellers bother, unless they happen to have some liability cover anyway, on their business insurance, or sometimes home insurance can cover this, you would need to check....

you are taking risks if you sell stuff that is not CE approved, especially if it is electric...eg. phone chargers....

however complaints via ebay/amazon, normally go nowhere if they are minor and a one-off, it depends on who the customer complains to...ebay/az wont do anything, but trading standards might if it was a serious injury.

is there an exact aspect is worrying you or is it just general?? I mean, you can injury yourself with anything if you try hard enough.....

Some good points in there. Pretty much ALL Chinese electrical goods, toys, etc will fail british safety standards. If someone was hurt seriously, then I imagine Trading Standards would investigate, the same if they had numerous complaints about items from the same seller.

If you manufacturer your own goods, you have to have public liability insurance.

I doubt very much the majority of sellers on eBay have any form of insurance..its all part of the ebay time bomb, eventually something s going to happen with all the rubbish being sold and the bubble is going to burst! Which knowing eBay as a global power, they will make sure the sellers are the ones that go down and their reputation will remain untarnished
