1) don't give it more than half of your physical machine's RAM
2) if your own machine has 2 GB of ram, your virtual machine will be very slow, unless you put a Win XP on it.
3) other virtual machines will be slow as well, if your physical machine is not capable of running VMware smoothly

For stealth, use WinXP machines, they are tiny, consume very little resources - like 1 core cpu / 256 RAM / 5GB HDD per VM is more than enough.

How much resources did you give to the VM? Are you sure VM is not installing some updates at the moment? Another thing is that I suggest using SSD drives for VMs, it really helps.

One more thing. Try to use the same OS bit version, as your host. So if you have 64 bit host OS, install 64 bit XP as a guest.

Don't really need a lot of resources if computer ONLY used for eb/pp

Or, you've messed something in the VMware configuration. It should run very smoothly.

Try to give 2gb of memory to each os that you open on vmware if you are opening lots of browser tabs. Also SSDs help a lot to relieve the bottle neck in using VMs.

What type of processor do you have on your computer? Is it pentium, dou core, core 2 duo, i3, i5, or i7.

Also, you may need to turn on virtualization mode for your computer in your bios settings. Older computers to have them.

I would recommend xp home edition sp3 with 1gb of ram and 10gb of hard drive base on your specs since you have a small hard drive.

You should also install vm tools to synchronize our host with your guest machine and for better hardware performance.

SSD works best as suggested but your hard drive speed can also affect your VMware performance and bottleneck. I would recommend a large hard drive with 7200 rpm if an ssd is to expensive for you.
