what are you guys paying for small parcels with royal mail under 2kg, Im paying £3 instead of £3.30 for first class (I think)....

U using PPI? BPL or STL code? Seems cheap, £3 is upto 1Kg if I have not mistaken.

I'm also paying £3 per small parcel. Royal Mail franked that is :)

£3 for small parcel first class franked, £2.50 for 2nd class.

This is with pitney bowes and before people cry and say its a "waste of money"?

* I pay £6 a month rental. This is because I did like any contract and went to 'cancel' after the first year and blagged the hell out of them.

*Ink costs barely anything

*Many of my small parcels I frank as large letters. Its borderline but saves me loads (63p compared to £2.50) so if they do check now and then the £1 fine per item over still makes it worth it

*Very useful when my parcels range from letters to large letters to small parcels

Hi Kiroshi,

I'm currently using the Royal Mail online postage account and having to go through booking things in and printing off labels every day - bit of a pain. I pay £1.26 per large letter (250g) but am looking for a way to get this down. I see that using Pitney Bowes Mailmark this can come down to 88p.

Wanted to ask:

1. To frank mail is it a requirement to use the weight scales on the machines or can you just 'input' what the weight is manually? I'm assuming that this might be the case given that you said you're entering small parcels as large letters...or is this just a size change.

2. What's the rent of the cheapest/lowest volume machine per month? You pay £6 right?

3. I did think about ink - how does franking machine ink value compare to laser/deskjet?

Mind giving us a little more info? The large letter and small parcel trick makes hell a lot of difference!

Hey! Why 1st class and £3.30 when you can 2nd class for £2.50. Most items I send as larger letter for 66p or 83p or so. Anything above larger letter but not cost effective to send as small parcle based on size and cost of sale, I send using post office stamp. Ideally, I will stick 2 x2nd class and 1 x 1st class stamp which total £1.71 on it. It saves me 79P

yes I am on franking, sharing a machine actually with someone else!!

reason I asked is I saw/heard something about B2B rates, but cannot find info on it....wondered if it could be exploited for eb....probably not that simple...

Currently we pay £3 for 1st class and £2.50 for 2nd class.

This is through royal mail, but I was on thier pricing calculator the other day and I put my quantities in and it stated I should be paying £2.58 for 1st class and £2.02 for 2nd class.

Keep meaning to give them a ring but haven't got around to it yet.

Its the same with my larger letters, they show they should be slightly cheaper also (however not by much)

I think the prices I am getting are same as yours 2.50 and hardly worth bothering with for few pence savings, I want better deal......

I will stop sharing franking soon due to the other party dropping it, they got the machine not me - I am paying halves for the rental right now, about £6pm, plus my postage costs. I am not keen to get my own machine tbh, seems a hassle, I could just build the extra in to my sale price, only 30p.....

what would you guys say was worth it volume-wise?

Sorry for late reply.

Well when it comes to franked mail, Royal mail do random checks. If you are over on weight or size, they send a letter, where you have to frank that said letter with the outstanding cost and pop it in the post.

When you do one wrong, they fine you £1 for each wring one. But it works out much better for me at least. Lets say they check once week and thats 10 packages that are over. You have £10 of fines, but have saved about 100 quid in the other 10 packages a day for 6 days of the week lol

By £2.02 you referred to 2nd class S Parcel?

Please keep us posted if you are able to get this deal and I will toss my franking machine out the window. Lolz

Do the franking machines show your return address? Just worried that they are stealth and return address is real.

Not by default, but you can add a return address if you want.

I will always prefer PPI to franking

Franking is like printing a stamp and it has your royalmail license id on it e.g 123456 . Stamps don't show your address.

On a franking labels you can have your address already printed. All depends which labels you buy

Ah same as what most people do with PPI too but nowadays these random checks are often!And they hold your mail until they can get hold of you and ask u to put the difference in your OBA account...so I guess franking is better in the way that it let your mail go first....lol
