Hopes this info is of use.

I contacted asda mobile and they sent me a free sim card. I put it in an unblocked phone (an ancient but working Nokia 3410).

I discovered it gave me 10 free minutes and 10 text messages. I used it to register new paypal and new ebay. I have ordered sims for wife and familly now.

I hope this is of use to the group

Good to know the ASDA ones have this 'extra' feature of minutes and texts. Others tend to be able to receive the text code without adding any credit.

Always good to get some free sims in ready. They do have 'expiry' dates, so you need to get them working before the date.

I have a few unlocked old phones that are ideal for making accounts. I keep them active for the initial few weeks of making an account, then the sim gets stored with all the account details ready to use if needed.

I never buy sim cards. I just keep ordering them from different providers on-line. Why pay when you can get them for free :laugh:

I've been using free EE SIM cards for each new stealth account I set up. I too keep a few old mobile phones for using with stealth accounts. The good thing about the free EE payg SIM cards is you never need to buy a top up as long as you dont need to make calls or text - which you shouldnt need to do from a number thats just used for a stealth account. I have my own number for making calls / texts and using mobile internet. Should I ever need to ring Paypal / Ebay etc then I put my phone on withheld number.

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that they can still see the number even if you use the withhold number facility.

I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable will come along and confirm one way or another.

So long as you withhold the number in the correct way then in the UK they cannot see it

Landlines is easy (141 before the numebr)

Mobiles you need to set in the phone settings a lot of the time

EE stores also have a FREE mobile brick...er...phone... they give you when you buy an EE £10 top up card (you need to ask). then just use free sims in the same phone

I put the sim in a nokia 3410 and i hid the number using the menus and not using 141 and called another mobile (virgin) the number wasn't shown.

I called my voip setup and the number wasn't shown.

I called a virgin media landline and did a 1471 the number wasn't shown.

If you say they can see the number am i missing something please ?

quick update on my experience, got my asda sim today that I ordered via their website LINK > https://goo.gl/vVCxCC < it comes with 10 mins, 10 texts and some data.

I know this is an old thread, but for those who are new to this, richie2065 and others are very correct, in the uk, when you block your number (at least using mobile phone and via mobile phone's menu or using #31# before the number) some organisations (not all can but some definitely can - especially organisations whose business is telephony) can still see your mobile number (although when you call other mobile phones, it says witheld etc), as it happened to me and i found out the hard way as like many, i thought for years they dont, so be careful all :)

Yep, thats right. 141 and #31# don't always withhold your number. If ever you need to call in, use the number you made the account with. Or at the very least, use a brand new number, never used before.
