Re-List . Sell Similar Or Fresh Listing, What do you do ?

Just wondering if this makes any difference with the ad placement etc.

For example say you have 1000 items listed and you sold 998 within the 30days, what would you do ?

Re list
Sell Similar
Fresh listing.

Reason why i ask is because i have heard different options result in different ranking positions, apparently if you do re list your ad is actually displayed lower than if you were to create a fresh listing.

True or False?

Only eBay really know

I just use good till cancelled listings. I tend to find they get very very good consistent sales

Good til cancelled if you have a business account. people are comforted by seeing that 100's of other people have bought the same item....even when you jack the prices up at Christmas time :)

When you 'relist' the item will stay in the same search position as it previously was.

'sell similar' starts a new listing which will be placed randomly.

A fresh listing is placed randomly too.

I say randomly, because who knows how eBay determines listing positions.:suspicious:

This.

I used to run 100% auctions with my listings, then moved to BIN on some of the products and now I run BIN('till cancelled) on accounts that have been aged and have selling history and only run auctions on the accounts that I'm building up/moving some junk stock.

I have also been testing the difference between relist/sell similar and I have found that "relist" works best for me- Just change the image and few lines of descriptions, but for some reason I get the watchers and views up quicker with by doing relist, not sell similar.

There might not be a SOLID difference or mechanical advantage to it, it might just be a placebo thing, but I feel that it works for me so I'll just keep doing it the way I have up to now.

So I guess if your number 1 position then its best just to re list if it means your position doesn't change since it last expired?

Correct.

And of it had a low ranking, your better using 'sell similar'

I wouldn't go as far as claiming that the new listing will automatically have exactly the same listing ranking as the older one, but surely its got better chances of being up there.

In terms of what actually works, nobody knows- I doubt even eBay themselves understand exactly how their code reacts to certain listings as the variables are so great- Literally every single listing is different so the rankings will be affected.

Try it with couple of listings, see what works best for you and next time when you see somebody who is struggling with the same problem: share your story and educate others :yar:

I think with relist it tends to build the viewers/watchers quickly. My rule of thumb is that if I have more than 5 quantities of an items, I make sure that I have a minimum of 3 qty in the listing at every time in order to retain the juices of longevity and appeal to buyers when they see that some quantities of the item has been sold already.

Plus, good till cancel is the way to go.

A good thing about the relist option I found is that people who were bidding/watchign the item tend to get the "seller has relisted" this item email come through
