Have you read this
Choosing a payment method (for buyers)
ebay itself does not recommend them too much.LOL. It is a hassle to accept one unless it is another UK bank. For me I would worry about bank fraud. You as the seller do not have too much protection. I am choking as I say this but I prefer paypal here

if the buyer is confirmed and verified I would give the OK... that would be the best way to go

Why would this method be more risky than PayPal? Once the money is in the bank they cannot chargeback, can they? Do you mean worried about your bank details in the wrong hands? Because bank transfers are popular in Australia?

Would I have to give a real name that matches if the buyer deposits the cash personally? or can it be anything as in electronic transfers?

The OP wanted to know about accepting a bank transfer from a country O/S of UK bank regulations. Bank fraud is common in many countries especially Europe. How is the OP going to know that the buyer is legitimate? Just because money gets to his account how would he know it is the real deal? Then because of language differences how is he going to deal with that? Paypal will offer another layer of protection.
Yes, Australia does a lot of bank transfers. 97% can be done with a name variation. Do be aware that some may fail.
