Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? @OP, you need to turn off the modem (connection to Net) and turn it on for a new IP assignment IF you're IP provider is dynamic... |
| SilentHill | 03-15-2016 10:32 PM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? you might be able to try phone tethering also you might be able to install the drive if you search for it online and set up your router. |
| easy.bake.oven | 03-15-2016 11:25 PM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? I don't know much but...
.... regarding no cd drive .....
maybe download drivers/software from manufactures site so you will have the installation file direct on your machine and/or try some sort of 'virtual cd drive' program...... depends what you need cd drive for.
That's all I can think of with my limited experience on this. |
| Pa1ace | 03-16-2016 08:05 AM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? yeah i think there is a download available from their online site.
basically ive got the new router which is this https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=be...4C4oiwx73yM%3A
and ive got a virgin media superhub https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=vi...I7FYtWrD3dM%3A
ive literally followed the steps in the stealth guide but i can not seem to grasp how to change the ip at all even with james' guide on how to change it with virgin media.
when i put the vm router into modem mode (i am wireless) i have no internet connection at all so when i attatch the new belkin router i cant access any internet setting as no pages load. so i cant change the mac adress.
just really getting to me as something that is explained so simple in the guide is proving to be very difficult :noidea: |

| Pa1ace | 03-16-2016 02:04 PM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? thankyou.
the thing is the router that i have bought is not a wireless one. its just a belkin4 port router.
i have followed james guide on how to change the mac address but the thing is when i put the virgin media into modem mode, and i have connected the belkin router to it via an ethernet cable, i loose all connection with the internet. and i cant access the belkin router as its not wireless.
really confused and losing all hope :( |
| JamesNorth101 | 03-17-2016 04:04 PM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? You should be able to access the router still even though there is no internet connection via a cat cable |
| arktech | 03-18-2016 12:25 PM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? this might work
save the current ip address for reference to compare with the last line of this posting
can you get to the logon page of the belkin router ??
if not in a browser enter 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
That should take you to the belkin router page.
look for mac address
when you find it change the last 1 or 2 numbers at the right hand end of the mac address ( i change the numbers to the door number of the stealth address)
save the changes. there may be a button to implement the changes as well
switch off the router .
reboot the modem
when fully rebooted switch on the router
when its fully booted up try to access google and if google comes up you are conneceted to the internet
google ipburger and it will show ip address if it is different to the ip addrees recored from first line of this posting the ip address has changed |
| Pa1ace | 03-19-2016 08:23 PM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? hi james,
i cant get any access to anything when i change the vm router to modem mode, really confused i will go through the steaps i have taken just to give you an idea of whats going on :).
arktech,
i cant actually get onto the log in page of the belkin router. the only page i can get onto is the virgin media page.
my wireless router is the superhub 1. so it has just a power cable
and the coaxial cable which is from the wall socket.
i have followed james guide ( http://www.aspkin.com/forums/ip-addr...super-hub.html ) however i dont have the netgear router he has used, instead i have a belkin 4 port non wireless router which was supplied with an ethernet cable.
i am operating from my macbook air for reference. which has no ethernet cable connection however i have a usb to ethernet cable if need be.
my steps were as his guide
1. log into vm superhub (successful)
2. change the vm router into modem mode (successfull)
3. use a Cat5/6 patch cable to connect the Hub to the router (the cat5 input closest to the fiber optics input). (successfull)
4. Then set up your router like you would a normal router with a modem attached, instructions should be in with the router. (unsuccessfull)
at this point i have no connection with the internet at all. im definiteley missing something out but i cant think what it is for the life of me.
im thinking maybe it might be because the router i have bought isnt a wireless one? even though i can connect it to my virgin media hub via an ethernet cable.
or
because i can not install the router even with the 'alternate set up method' as set out here on page 22. http://www.belkin.com/support/dl/F5D5231-4_manual.pdf
i will try out your method and let you know if i am successfull.
i appreciate all the help and guidance,
kid regards |
| arktech | 03-20-2016 07:47 AM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? you connect with cat 5 canble to router?
which socket do you connect to on the router ?
do you connect the router to your compuetr with a cat 5 cable ? |
| Pa1ace | 03-20-2016 02:12 PM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? apologies if im sounding stupid but im just trying to describe the best way i can. i appreciate your help and patience.
the virgin media hub has 2 wires from it which are the coaxial cable and the power cable.
i connect the belkin router to the virgin media one via ethernet cable which plugs into the one next to the coaxial cable.
i only have one ethernet cable so when i do this there is no ethernet cable running from my laptop to any modem. should there be another ethernet cable connecting the vm or the belkin router to my mac?
i thought that i would be able to access the belkin router through the vm one as its wireless? but when i put the vm one into modem mode i can not access the internet at all even with the ethernet cable plugged into a ethernet/usb attatchment to my mac and into the back of the vm hub |
| arktech | 03-21-2016 10:16 AM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? the vm hub is in modem mode and you plug in your cable and run it to the input connector on your belkin not the group of four ? |
| arktech | 03-21-2016 10:22 AM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? have a look at this i googled this its on youtube
i think this should cover basic connection. |
| Pa1ace | 03-21-2016 12:13 PM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? I have done exactly the same as that video however the router that I have bought from eBay is not wireless,
so when I go into modem mode, I can not get any internet connection at all as the router that I have attached can not be found by my Mac as I only have one Ethernet to use cable which connects the vm super hub to the new router. I think that's where I have gone wrong.
I'm wondering if I buy the net gear router it will solve the problem and would be the easiest solution.
Another thing I meant to ask, would it be a brand new net gear router I would have to purchase or could it be a used one from eBay? I'm just worried about the IP address of it.
And also by changing the MAC address of that would that give me a permanent new fresh IP address that I wouldn't have to keep checking?
Thank you for all of your informative help |
| arktech | 03-22-2016 03:08 AM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? type in the model number of you router from the badge under the base.

i have attatched that to my virgin media superhub 2 via an ethernet cable exactly as the video however the reason i cant get into that router i think is because it isnt wireless :( thats the only explanation i can think of? |

| arktech | 03-23-2016 03:52 AM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? My choice is to edit the mac address of the router its easier and faster for me however the following might work and is a “get you home method ” to get you up and running.
If you are using the router to change the mac address to get another IP address and do not require wifi then you do not need to use a router to change the mac address.
If your vm modem is in modem mode and plugged straight into your computer then it will be using the mac address on your computer..
Assuming you are using windows download a mac address editor, change the mac address.
You may have to reboot your computer and then the mac address is changed .
Then reboot the VM modem and you should have a new ip address
suggested steps
open a command box type in getmac and it will tell you your mac address and record it.
Record the current IP address
using the mac address editor change the mac address
turn off pc reboot vm modem
turn on pc
command prompt getmac see if the mac address is changed ?
If it has changed record the new maca address now check Ip address against previous and if its changed you are up and running
Another system you could try is to get a usb to ethernet card adapter. plug the cat 5 cable from your modem into it and then plug to a usb port on your computer reboot all and the usb network adapter has a different mac address and thus you should get a new ip address. These a just a few pounds in cost.
These things are fiddly at first but will get you moving .and the more you study them the more knowledge you get.
Look on Youtube for videos about spoofing y your mac address |
| ninja83 | 03-23-2016 07:30 AM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? Now find the mac address and try to change it. Then check your new IP |

if it doesnt work try 192.168.0.1 | If neither of those works, go to your connection settings and find the "hostname". The hostname IP is the IP of your router, and that's the IP you need to use for access. Then you just google the default username/pw for your particular router.
Just my $.02, hope it helps! |
| arktech | 03-23-2016 11:45 AM | Re: changing my ip adress, very very confused any help? If you are not using wifi on your router then you do not need it. simply plug your cat5 cable into your modem in modem mode into your computer network connection. go into a new identity. copy the current mac address and current ip[ address. download https://technitium.com a mac address editor. change the mac addess and save. reboot the computer and then reboot your modem and all being well it should give you a new mac and ip address record the new mac and ip addressees,
This should work for you and free .
when you have sorted your router that will be easier to edit |

Look on Youtube for videos about spoofing y your mac address | hello arktech, thankyou for your replies and your help, i do appreciate it a lot.
im just finding it frustrating getting my head around changing my ip adress, something that should be so simple is costing me time and money from ebay :(
regarding your message above. im operating from an apple mac so im wondering if this will work for me?
james guide to change the virgin media ip adress says that he has used the netgear router which is wireless, im wondering if all else fails i will be able to pick one of these up from ebay and change it exactly as the video you posted from youtube.
again, thankyou for your patience and help |
