Santander Basic Bank account - Applying online?

When do you have to post the copies of the proof of ID & address?

Is it all done by post?
If successful, do you have to eventually bring the originals into a branch?

(assume new customer.
assume on electoral roll in 1st year out of last 3 yrs)

If already existing customer, does it change anything re: posting copies or originals of ID & address proof?

Totally depends on the bank

If your an existing customer they rarely need to see ID again if you are on the electoral roll

Not sure what Santander's protocol is. But it varies between banks.

If your on the electoral roll, some banks will let you open a bank account right away, they'll even give you your account number straight after the application.

Others will require you to go into the branch with ID.

Your best bet is to just try and apply online and see what happens, if you have to go into the branch, just do it, there's no harm in showing them your real ID.

Banks do share information - sometimes it's random checking others they have their own reason for wanting ID.

Electoral roll can get you automatic opening online. Halifax used to be good at opening online, they started asking for ID nearly every time you wanted an account for a period of time.
