Best way to import large order from China?

I was wondering what shipping method is best to ship large stock to UK from China. Does it really makes sense financially to use DHL, Fedex e.t.c to import large stock as I have noticed the charges sometimes seem near equal or larger that the cost of goods itself.

I was talking to a supplier who was advising to use the shipping port as it is way way cheaper even though it may take 30 days or more which I do not mind, but I have no previous experience of this shipping method.

My third and final option is travelling there myself or send someone to be the purchaser, spend a week to gather all the stock into one package, will pay for the return flight when it is cheaper then return to UK with total luggage of up to 60KG and possibly more if allowed, excess luggage paid for. The viability of this approach I still dont know cause I dont know the cost of flight there or what the excess luggage will cost either.

Please share your thoughts and experiences

You could get a freight shipping quote or talk to a freight shipping agent, just to see what that would cost. Depending on what you're trying to import it can save you thousands in shipping costs vs. express shipping. If you can fill an entire shipping container then it would really be worth it. But they have "less than container" options also.

Thanks. Any cheap freight shipping agent serving UK you could recommend?

Sorry, I meant to post a link when I responded earlier.

Freight Shipping Quotes Online | Freightquote

You can get quotes from there for container loads (TL) and less than container loads (LTL). I recommend shopping around before you make a decision. Or just talk to an agent who can help you find the most efficient solution for your needs.

Yankee is the only forum member I know of with freight shipping experience, but he's just going to tell you to contact a shipping agent.

Just be away with freight you can get hit with some really high port charges if they decide to inspect your container.

You want to make sure that you use a door to door service to make things a lot easier for yourself.

I did reply to this not sure why it was deleted got no message to say why.

I have used The Cargo Company - Home - Air Freight Specialists they are based in Milton Keynes, really friendly team, keep you informed from end to end and also offer a door to door service.
