Cant get a bank account help !!!!
 

Ok....

I Currently have a bank account linked to my ebay account and I use this still for buying items as ebay banned me from selling.
I have made a stealth account and I have just to add a bank account but ...

I applied yesterday for a Santander Basic account and got an email today saying I was rejected due to poor credit rating.
I read on Martins money saving website that the best accounts to use are basics as there is no monthly charge which is exactly what I want for a stealth account and people that have a poor or bad credit rating are ok to apply and in 99% of cases most people will be accepted but not me.

I am desperate to get back to selling as soon as possible but the whole bank thing is stopping me.

Has anyone got any suggestions of bank accounts that will accept me straight away????? and by the way I have checked out all the online instant bank accounts and these are great if you want to get robbed of over £17 per month just to use an account.

I am after a fee free account just so I can set up my ebay account and get everything ticked off.

Might be worth spending a little time figuring why they declined you.

If you opened the account online maybe hop into a branch and see if you can find out why? They will not know for sure unless its something obvious like bankruptcy but they may be able to point you in the right direction. I say may be because it does depend a little on who you talk to!

Most declines, in my experience, were due to applicants not being on the voters role.

You have 101 options, just look for a savers account. Subscribe to eBay Stealth and you'll get a breakdown of providers with information on how stealth friendly they are.

Have you got any open bank accounts regardless of whether or not it's been used on eBay?

If so, your best option will be to open an online savings account with the same bank through your online banking?

Do you have an account open anywhere? If so, where?

Hi Guys thanks for the replies.

I had an Ex partner who moved in with me and brought along all her debt with her as well which explains why I now have a low credit rating. As we lived together everything was in joint names and she was going through a debt relief order which effected me as well. This was a few years ago now so I assumed it was clear but I guess not !!

I have 2 bank accounts, one is already linked to eBay which is ok and which is still linked to my current eBay account as I can still buy items and I still currently use. I opened up another eBay account ages ago and linked my other card to this and this is ok but the 2 eBay accounts are linked with the same address just different banks so its not like I can use this bank now as the info has already been submitted to EBay.

Reference Buying the Stealth guide with 101 answerers in it to do with stealth bank accounts, this would be great but I never bought the ASPKIN guide I bought the back on EBay Guide which only skirts over the issue of bank accounts as its more US geared and not UK.
I bought it before I stumbled across this site, should have waited but desperation does that to you when you want to get back on eBay.

I could get a savings account which is attached to my current account but would I be supplied with a separate card ?? as when linking this to PayPal I will have to give them the sort code, account number and the 3 digit security number on the back, Would it be easy as well to sort out the online banking with a separate sub account?

If you can get a savings account with your current bank then do so.

Open it online, you will get a new sort code and account number instantly (with most banks anyway) . Wait atleast 24 hours then add it to paypal. You only add the sort code and account number.

Hi, just to clear the water a little (because it sounds like you're a little confused):

You need two finincial items to add to your PayPal

One is a bank account (Sort code and account number)

One is a card (Long card number, expiry date, three-digit code)

They don't have to be from the same account.

You can use, for example, a savings account with no card and a different credit card or VIRTUAL CREDIT CARD.

A virtual credit card is an online card which you can top up using your bank's debit card and MUST BE IN YOUR REAL NAME AND DETAILS.

If you let me now which bank you are with, I may be able to give you more accurate instructions for the right savings account.

Yeah you should be able to open an everyday saver through your online banking.

Good luck.

You can also appeal to Santander and tell them you need an account and you understood that the government says basic bank accounts should not be credit scored.
