| | | tent905345 | 08-19-2016 10:57 AM | Calling Paypal without revealing your number I need to call paypal about something from a landline. If I use BT's 141 service, will it block the number or do they have special call management software that can tell them I have called from that number about another account before? thanks |
| Bunneh | 08-19-2016 10:58 AM | Re: Calling Paypal without revealing your number yes it will block if you put that in front of the number.
you can test it by calling your mobile from your landline. |
Re: Calling Paypal without revealing your number On a slight tangent, its worth noting that tapping 141 (or #31# for some networks) to withold your number when calling from a 'mobile phone' doesn't always work. Landline is your best solution. |

I also make the call from a number not linked to a PayPal account, so if it did ever leak, it won't be associated with any accounts. |
| phaz0rz | 08-19-2016 01:30 PM | Re: Calling Paypal without revealing your number I know this is a UK thread, but over here in USA Paypal has highly advanced call management software. I wouldn't be comfortable taking this risk. Blocking your number would look highly suspicious, in my opinion.
Are you not able to use spoofcard.com, and call in with the number on your account? I've used spoofcard successfully a few times now. You can spoof your number about 3 times before Paypal's system detects that you are spoofing your number. Once they realize you are spoofing your number, they won't even answer your calls anymore. They caught me doing this on an account a few months back. After the 3rd call, I couldn't even get their number to ring anymore.
Again, this advice pertains to USA accounts, but I think it may be helpful in this situation. |
Re: Calling Paypal without revealing your number I doubt that using 141 would be very suspicious, loads of people are ex-directory now |

Regarding spoofing, what gave it away on the third attempt? Seems weird as I would assume a well put together spoofing system won't give it away. |

I did a little research afterwards, and that's when I realized P/P has some of the most advanced phone systems in the world. If you google it, there is phone software that helps companies detect spoofed calls. A message will pop up on the reps screen saying something like "80% chance this number is spoofed" if their systems detect anything suspicious about the call.
I'm clueless in this realm, but those guys at Paypal are quite crafty. |

For UK guys, the best solutions I've found is ASDA PAYG sims where you only have to top up £5, and make a call/text once every 6 months to keep the sim active. Even if you don't do this, the sim remains active for 9 months. By far the cheapest/simple solution I've come across. |

Since 3 years for my multiple ebays and PayPal accounts and never have a problem. I guess there is some kind of privacy thing which may not allow PayPal to use any kind of system to see the number if customer does not want to share. But not 100% sure. |
