Mobile Data Ip

Just letting ya'll know
you cant keep the same ip even if you leave your data on all the time, it will automatically change after 48 - 72 hours
tried it a few days ago with ee and three
ee changed after 48hours, three changed after 72

Yes that's very common, although sometimes you get to keep the same IP for longer stretches of time as long as you don't restart the dongle

Thanks for that.

Can you clarify if this test was carried out with a dongle/MiFi or tethering using an actual mobile phone?

The latter should be able to hold the IP much longer.

Didn't restart
it was fully charged all times

Dongles can go into sleep mode if there isn't an active data stream at which point the IP address can get released

If you want to try to keep the same IP address then you need to make sure there is am active data stream to stop the dongle going into sleep mode. That (in theory!) should prevent the dongle releasing the IP back into the pool

Active data stream...like some media video or music?

Re: Mobile Data Ip

An online clock should do it. Just something that keeps the data stream open.

Music or a video would use a lot of data so really you want something that is very small and in the background

Even a twitter stream that refreshes every hour or 2 would do it

But, If you do lose the IP surely it can't be the end of the world. People's IP's must change all the time and as long as you're accessing PayPal from the same device with the same cookie history and user agent it should be fine, Shouldn't it ?

If I gathered correctly, the OP was aiming to setup multiple phones which hold a single IP indefinitely - which woul be a cost effective solution compared to a VPN.

But having new IPs (and keeping logs of them) is the traditional way to go.

Yes that's called a lease of the IP address. The majority of the time its good for 48 hours or until you logoff. Something else to note is that at times the mobile dongles will disconnect and reconnect without anything noticeable to the person logged on. So if your hanging around eBay/PP for extended periods of time you may want to double check your IP. Keep those IP addresses in your spreadsheet as well.:coffee:

So, Check your IP address before you log off to see if it's changed ?

Not necessarily. Most people don't sit and use their ebay account for several hours, or even days - for a new IP to take over.

Unless your not most people, then you should check your IP before you log off, and hope it hasn't changed to one that was previously used with another account.

Re: Mobile Data Ip

From my experience, that's right that if the dongle stay inactive too long time , it will disconnect. A browser plugin to auto refresh your browser every hour is enough to solve the problem.

I never experienced any change of Ip when I was connected... I use a software to connect via my dongle (mobile partnair), and I set the connection on manual and not automatic, so if the dongle disconnect, I have to reconnect manually, but it only happend (to me) 2 or 3 times in a year

and as the thread started with it , I can keep the same IP on a phone much longer than 72h
