I don't use my card in PayPal only transfer to my bank account so do I need to add one or not?

You don't have to, but there is no harm in adding a new one. It always helps to make the account a bit stronger

I have never bothered renewing the card once it expires even when prompted to by PP.. never had any problems

Both above statements are pretty much on the money.

Having an 'active' card gives the account a little credibility during a manual review as well.

But most importantly, there are some payments where you will need another funding source i.e. card for payment to go through. These are mainly with subscription based payments, but other than that it wont really hinder your use.

I always add a new card after one expires, just my preference :)

There have been a few reported issues using entropay in the last few days, so if you do decide to add a card. It might be an idea not to use entropay.

Does anyone know if the HSBC VCC is AVS ?

HSBC are the best guys to ask

I am not totally sure if they still issue the VCCs though
