Any Shopify alternatives that import ebay smoothly?

I'd spent a couple of days on shopify customising the theme to my taste. Then I run the ebay importer app. First, I noticed there was no option to select only "buy it now" products and filter out the auctions. So, I got all the items imported together. No bad so far.

Days later I have added some hundreads more product to ebay, then I headed to shopify to import those too, but surprisingly after running the ebay importer app again, I noticed it has imported everything from scratch again, meaning a full duplicates of almost 500 items I had before. I'd expected shopify with its longevity to be experienced and intelligent enough to skip duplicates, its pretty simply but what I noticed was that they just didn't build it for my use case. Worst still, I'd expected there to be a time stamp in admin showing the date an item was added or imported..

It is just a big shame to realise I'd just wasted my time. So, before I begin another excercise of wasting my time testing another platform, I think its better to listen to all your recommendations.

What can you recommend guys, I just need to have a store outside of ebay using a good tool that will syncronise my ebay items without the duplicates

Re: Any Shopify alternatives that import ebay smoothly?

I just finished the ecommerce go it alone process myself, and I went with Magento and hosting solution.

With shopify and their bretheren I was beholden with their payment service provider and on top of that they take a % of the sale and offer NO marketing or any form of assistance whatsoever. I was not willing to give up part of a sale like that, not a chance.

Magento is the most robust platform out there, but with that comes endless configuration and a steep learning curve. Long term it was the right move for me, even though I have invested quite a lot in getting it up and running. And the Magento platform is free. 1000s of extensions.

I recommend everyone build an independent channel, so I think you're definitely doing the right thing.
