Reasons for eBay BUYER account suspension?

Hi,

I had a dispute with a seller over a SNAD claim - my first and only such claim. To my knowledge this is the only account I've ever opened on eBay and was a decade ago with impeccable feedback since, both as a buyer and a seller.

Since that case, eBay sent two emails in the space of as many hours. The first was to request a crime number from the Police, which was expected. The second was another saying I have been permanently limited, and all cases have been decided in favour of the seller... they didn't wait for my submission in the first email.

Now, I'm baffled. The only thing I can thing of was I have been a relative n00b over the years, and logged in from public places and via undedicated VPNs.

Would that be a reason why eBay might limit a buyer account - if someone else on the IP has been dodgy?

For now, I've given up hope on that SNAD and have gone down the chargeback/Royal Mail comp. route. Will be setting up a stealth account over the next few days.

Thanks :)

Yeah, the shared VPN could have done it.

Sounds like they may have took a closer look at your login history after sending the first email, noticed you've been logging in from shared/abused IP's, and then ban hammered you.

Or the seller you had a dispute with could have made a really good case against you when talking to eBay.

I'd be surprised if he made a good case - I was professional throughout, didn't accuse him directly of anything. Meanwhile he was screaming criminal at me etc. etc. haha. I submitted all the evidence I had - images, an Action Fraud number etc but apparently not enough...

Sometimes this website is so frustrating, I wish there was a viable alternative to eBay and Amazon but sadly they are by far the most profitable sites.

I'm guessing it must have been the IP situation - lesson learnt.

What was the value of the item ? that has a lot to do with it.

Don't forget ebay have charts, data and behaviour analysts in hand they know exactly how prone a certain product is to scams. So if it's a product that is high risk where loads of scammers try it on (electronics for example). Even if your case is genuine they may be inclined to agree with the seller if he presents a good case.

I have had Sandisk send two of their latest 512GB memory cards under a warranty claim. I listed them for sale, new & sealed on ebay and had a very long term ebay user buy them. On receipt he claimed I sent him phakes showing me photos of some knockoffs. Obviously my cards were DIRECT from Sandisk with all paperwork in tact including online chat logs with Sandisk. Once I presented all this to ebay they said do not worry they would take action. The said buyer was suspended. May be he had a pattern of SNAD claims, may be it was his first and my case was far too strong ? either way ebay and paypal and amazon. They are getting better and better in detecting buyer protection abuse.

Not so easy to do when you're the buyer.

Thanks all - it was a *very* high risk item (a watch). So I'm sure that had some impact.

It's just super frustrating they seemingly took a proof of postage weight as gospel, when that's so easy to manipulate. Whereas my photo evidence and police report mean nothing, as they are simply my word vs. his.

Anyway, many lessons learnt. I now need to figure out how I can get a stealth account to sell electronics again, which was my mainstay before this happened. Selling laptops on a new stealthed account is going to be super tricky.

What was the problem with the watch, were you claiming that it was a phake based on the weight of an original and the weight of the one he sent ?

Should have got a professional opinion from a specialist / jewelry shop.
