Petition to: force Trading Standards to investigate the practises of eBay & Paypal

Another member brought this eBay & Paypal petition to my attention:

As a business seller on eBay, we are most concerned that the new rule changes on eBay will put us at the mercy of dishonest "buyers" and will leave us nowhere to go in the event that we are ripped off. Paypal's business model is bordering on a scam. Sellers pay fees for using their near monopoly of a service yet are subjected to bias on a scale that cannot be comprehended. Paypal offer a dispute process for buyers to go if they are unhappy with a purchase. The problem is that Paypal always side with the buyer and do not even provide an explanation as to how the decision was reached. They are unnaccountable. To make matters even worse, eBay are even considering making Paypal mandatory for certain transactions.

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to force Trading Standards to investigate the practises of eBay & Paypal

That is because...

they don't want the small sellers anymore.

In the long run, EBAY is changing, and they are phasing us out.

Ironically, it is likely good for the stock because they will focus on the accounts that make them the most money.

The old 80/20 rule. 20% of the accounts make the most Money, the other 80% cost more money to manage. So the objective business wise in this case is to eliminate the 80%.

GreenBean 04-17-2008 07:15 PM

Sadly, many are the subjective 80%. I wonder how many will care to sign?

ebayaintstupid 04-17-2008 07:42 PM

Does EBAY care...

they know what they are doing. If 100% of the 80% signed, EBAY would still do the same thing.

It is all about money.

ebayaintstupid 04-19-2008 11:29 AM

Payscam...hmmmm.

Paynothing.com. Just file a complaint 30 seconds after buying something.
Payus.com. Collects EBAY fees automatically.
PayEBAY.com. Every minute of our freakin' lives.
PayArses.com. Every time they limit an account in a way that cannot be unlinked and steal the funds.
PayThieves.com When you get a suspension and EBAY bills you for all the services they didn't provide on all your current listings.

Any more folks?

i just checked it out. they only have 26 signatures. and sign up ended yesterday.

GreenBean 04-19-2008 11:52 AM

...dell, the petition finishes 5/18, another 4 weeks away.

Sadly, I've never seen huge results from these E petitions. But I've certainly signed it and am all for the direction it's heading for.

The petition is still live it runs until 18 May, it is slowly gaining names but I am amazed at how many people here in the UK complain about ebay and paypal but fail to do anything about, especially when given the chance to join a petition or similar.

All mouth and very little action

GreenBean 04-19-2008 06:17 PM

People do prefer to whinge rather than be proactive and change conditions.

simplyjimbo 04-19-2008 06:25 PM

I just don't understand some people, they go to all the trouble of spending all that time typing their moans about ebay, and i bet some are slow at typing, yet they can't put their money where their mouth is and do something about it when they have the opportunity.

If it helps to anyone the petition is pretty very much anonymous all you have to do is fill in 4 or is it 5 little boxes and then click the confirmation link in your email, then voila all done. Mi5 or Gordon brown won't be hassling you afterwards.

Come on UK residents speak up and sign the petition, whilst on the downing street site do a search for the other ebay petitions that are going on.

You never know maybe the government will do something, but they certainly won't if they aren't told there is a problem.

mantisinc 04-20-2008 10:33 AM

Jimbo, other than creating an E-petition, there is little else anyone can do. Most people don't have the time or will to take action against such companies.

the office of fair trading is one government body that will listen,
