More safety if the listing not private listing?

Anyone have experience with this or any comment? My friend real paypal got limited about 3 years ago and he set up a new account with his wife detail but same address and selling same items, pic and description is slightly different. IP address different also new computer. The only 'BIG' different is private listing before limited and now no private anymore. Account now 3 years old with no problem at all. He said is more safety when not put it as 'private listing' because this means to eBay he have nothing to hide. I dont know shall i trust him or not, i always do private listing. Anyone have comment with this?

why try and fix what is not broken.

What has been working for you has been working that way for years.

i have never made a private listing. and i wont bid on private listings. its comman sense they are shilled so no point.

GreenBean 01-07-2012 08:22 AM

That's one of the better sillier claims in a post.

It's a private listing because they are shilled.

What about users who sell in certain categories?

Are we all doing that:FF:

xxxhustlerxxx 01-07-2012 08:25 AM

what categories would need private listings?

the things i buy or sell on ebay would never need them.

EDIT -only thing i can think of would be womens clothes. but since i am a guy i would have no need to buy that. so like i said. anything to me that is private i wiill not bid.

the adult category is one where privacy becomes an issue. i dont need the whole world knowing what im in to

GrannyT 01-07-2012 10:05 AM

The good thing for private listings is if you are building feedback with low priced items. I have done it often. The claims made here for private listings being risky are just plain nonsense.

Concentrate on things that do affect accounts and stop looking for 'reds under the bed'

i buy allot to resell on ebay, i do not want the customers knowing what i paid for something that i am going to resell so i only buy from private listings, other than that i ask the seller to change it to private so i can purchase item and still get the feedback.

I find its best to use private listings if your selling using auctions as if buyers see you have sold the same item for less to other buyers they feel like they can bribe you for discount

GrannyT 03-25-2012 04:48 AM

I have a friend who sells ladies 'unmentionables':pound: She has over 5,000 100% feedback and has only ever listed as private.

It isn't an issue IMO

Why would it make any differenece if it was private or not for shilled bidding?
You cannot see whos bid on a item whethers its private or not

Hiding your sales from rival sellers is just common sense

Also it stops people looking through items you have sold a stealing your prices and pictures
