Voip not working for new ebay seller accounts in the UK?

Anyone getting this? Tried to setup a few accounts today, and when I did the phone verification thing it just never called? I checked the number and called it myself and my voip worked fine.

Did it with 3 different numbers for 3 different accounts and it the call never came through on any of them. Anyone had this problems today/lately?

Usually worked fine, hope its not another new problem.....

mantisinc 05-04-2008 04:26 PM

VOIP doesn't appear to be working any more, for either paypal, or ebay.

Time to use landlines.

mattcafc 05-04-2008 04:44 PM

Didnt realise it wasnt working with Ebay aswell, this is a really big problem then. How are you supposed to get access to multiple landlines!

GreenBean 05-04-2008 04:56 PM

matt, this is a problem big time now. Being going on since about mid-March that ebay/phone calls have changed. I guess it stood to reason that if voip failed for paypal, then voip would also fail for ebay. damn.;)

ivegotinfo 05-04-2008 09:14 PM

i wouldnt use voip, use the phone redirection sites.

imjustme 05-05-2008 01:50 AM

eBay can't tell if it's VOIP or not. Simple as that. Don't tell me you guys are using Skype? Because eBay has all Skype numbers blacklisted.

MOBSTER 05-05-2008 02:28 AM

i see people posting about landlines, tracphones.. etc.. all of my 5 accounts are various family member cell phones.. not a single one is a landline.. knock on wood, have had no problems yet..

GreenBean 05-05-2008 02:41 AM

The talk of voip here is relative to the UK.

mattcafc 05-05-2008 08:00 AM

Yep sorry this is regarding account in the UK

Ebay have stopped letting you use Voip, even if you get a London area code (0208) etc.

And mobile phones are not allowed in the UK as verification

GreenBean 05-05-2008 08:16 AM

mattcafc, I asked aspkin again about getting the country flags up again. Hope that it does
happen.
Back to voip, has anyone challenged ebay about why they are knocking the number?

imjustme 05-05-2008 01:25 PM

What VOIP service are you using? Skype?

mattcafc 05-05-2008 05:20 PM

No, Im using 2 different Voip services, and also call forwarding, nither work

GreenBean 05-05-2008 05:30 PM

IJM, most of the UK users have not used skype at all. Swear word!

coolandcalm 05-10-2008 09:52 PM

Ok, same thing here now, went to list on one of my UK accounts and it is asking for phone verification, anyone found something that works for UK?, mantisinc? Originally used VOIP to verify this account, now it is asking for phone verification again. It appears VOIP is now a dead end?

GreenBean 05-10-2008 11:53 PM

The jury is still out on what to use for ebay UK phone verifications. Nothing has turned up
yet.

mattcafc 05-18-2008 08:58 AM

Anyone got any progress? I have resorted to using friends landline numbers for the time being (Obviously of people who dont use Ebay)

scouse12345 05-19-2008 12:03 PM

Who's your ISP Mat.?>

imjustme 05-19-2008 12:08 PM

I'm guessing eBay in the UK has some sort of a database of which numbers are assigned to VOIP?

mantisinc 05-19-2008 12:20 PM

The reason VOIP isn't working is because they compare the phone number to large UK databases, and if the number doesn't match the address you've entered, the verification will fail. There are no VOIP numbers listed in the databases, so from now on people are going to have to find a real house, with a real address, and use the phone number connected to it.

Hell just use your work's number or something. Looks like it's the only solution left :)

imjustme 05-19-2008 12:31 PM

And I'm guessing the US doesn't have a database like that? Otherwise they would have already implemented it there, I'm sure.

mantisinc 05-19-2008 12:44 PM

I wouldn't hold your breath, no doubt they do, but as ususal, us in the UK are just the guinea pigs :D

Thats not how it works. I have used landline phone numbers for accounts that have different address', accounts have all opened, and stayed opened and trader for 6+ months.

Its region postcode coded.

There is no database that has every phone number and every house number it belongs to etc, as this is a breach of the data protection act (ex directory etc)

However each phone number can be located to an area - SE18, ED7 etc etc, so it doesnt need to be a correct address

Which limits the amount of accounts you can make. Theres always a way round things, just have to discover them

Call sign feature? Havent heard of it, will give it a google search now

mattcafc 05-19-2008 12:54 PM

Ah its one extra number for a fiver. No point Scouse, Im more interested in discovering ways of opening multiple accounts 5+ over time, dont want to limit myself to 1 or 2 then lose them and have no more access.

mantisinc 05-19-2008 01:22 PM

Matt, it's not a reigonal match, or at least not around here.

I've tried about 4 mates houses in and around the area, with addresses from that area as well (all within the same postcode area), and the number failed every time, because it "didn't match" the given address.

Please show me one piece of evidence of this magic database that records everyone house number/telephone number please, just one single tiny piece of evidence that it exists from this massive database you have to use to find it called the internet. Because it doesnt, and you have just made a presumption

mantisinc 05-20-2008 02:03 PM

I've made a presumtion? Yes, so have you. And you also have zero evidence to support your idea that there is no database.

Your comment is just as viable, if not less so, than mine, as ususal. Nice one batty matty.

I havent made a presumption you idiot. I have corrected your mistake. Try ANY online UK database (192 for example) to see PHONE NUMBERS ARE REGION CODED

You are an idiot, and not always right as you seem to think.

I would try and be more like, but I dont think i could get my head that far up my own arse

silver_surfer 05-29-2008 05:18 AM

OK guys calm down!

Apart from that negativity, both of you have actually talked about some interesting points, and even answered a question I had in my mind, thanks.
