A2554 Notice : eBay Registration Suspension - Section 9

Sent the below email today:

Dear XXXXX,

We are writing to alert you that your eBay account has been suspended, because your credit/debit card company declined eBay's attempt to verify your registration information that we have on file.
Per the User Agreement, Section 9, we may immediately issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend or terminate your membership and refuse to provide our services to you if we believe that your actions may cause financial loss or legal liability for you, our users or us.
To remove any limitations, you are required to confirm your eBay registration by following the link below :

The link below takes me to: http://XXXXXXX.cp.regruhosting.ru/rdr.php so I have gone no further.

The email seems to be from eBay@ebay.co.uk however I am unsure if this can be tampered with by scammers?

However I also received an email from paypal saying: You’ve already added your bank account to your PayPal account. Now you’re just a few short steps away from confirming it and having more choice in how you pay at checkout.

I confirmed my bank account before I begun selling around 2 weeks ago, I went to "wallet" to check and the status of the bank account is "confirmed".

I have seem other threads saying its likely to be fraud however paypal have also emailed saying I need to confirm my bank account (which is already confirmed)

Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Is it in your ebay mail box when you sign in?

If not it is a phishing email.

I did check that and no there is no message there.

The thing which has thrown me is the email from Paypal within a few hours regarding still needing to confirm my bank account?

If there is nothing on your PayPal and nothing in your eBay inbox then I would just assume is a scam

Now if i'd stupidly clicked the paypal link and logged in, should I now immediate change my password/recovery questions etc?!

That would be a very good idea :thumb:

How easily can the "from" address be altered by a scammer? The email SAYS it's from eBay@ebay.co.uk. but links suggest otherwise.

If there is no message in eBay messages then it did not come from eBay

What email provider are you using? Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail ect

How about with Paypal?

Yahoo.

Re: A2554 Notice : eBay Registration Suspension - Section 9

Again if you log into the account and there is nothing to do then I would not worry about it

PayPal do have a habit of sending out emails for things that do not actually need doing though

I would still change all passwords if I were you though

I think you have had a lucky escape.

Certainly a scam

Scam, as EB uses totally different codes, and usually does not disclose why did they suspend you ;) Moreover, link in this letter goes outside ebay. It is possible to forge return address, but if you look at email's headers, it is possible to see the real sender's address.

Stay aware!

If you clicked any link on that email i would do a virus scan, in case it has installed something dodgy on your pc.

If you're just simply looking at the 'from' as displayed by your email provider... that can be fudged *very* easily.

To see where an email is really coming from you need to look at the email headers, there are many articles/blogs/etc online about how to interpret the headers on an email and many spam filter worth it's salt is going to pick apart the header as a main point of spam detection (but no spam filter is perfect)
