Hit with ID Check and going legit?
 

Hi Guys, I have been hit with an ID check on stealth account I purchased a while back. I am going to go legit and send my real passport as my address has changed on my credit file so its not a banned address.. Should I remove the bank account now or after changing my details and sending over docs?

Leave the bank details as they are as they can not check the name against the account number, do it later when the dust settles.

When I send them over my id I will also be changing the name to match my real ID. Still Ok not to remove bank account before I do that?

Changing the name on the account is going to cause more problem though...

Really? Isn't that how most people have gone legit when switching to managed payments.. By changing to their actual name?

If you upgraded an old account from stealth to managed payments it updates your name in the details. With that said, the account I did this with, whenever I got emails from eBay it still would show my stealth name. In the account settings it only showed my real name, so there is conflicting data. For example if I called in, or entered chat they would address me by my stealth name, it wasn't the real name. I am not sure if photo ID passes verification.

Many users aren't active here anymore, I think that might be why. If you have merchant customer support you would likely need to explain why there is a different name, which can be easily explained in terms of business (employee, business partner), but they must know this if you got rejected. It won't be easy to pass, but I'm sure it's not impossible. A lot depends on how much history your account already has.

Maybe it's different in UK.

When people went legit, it was only in MP as they seem not report the name change to eBay, so individuals previously suspended just give their real ID to MP, and that can be used on multiple accounts that the stealth seller has.

No advantage to removing the bank so just keep it there - update the details - upload the doc :)

I have a couple of questions please.

At what point does Ebay ask for documents?, I think I read here somewhere that's it's after about a few hundred pounds.

And secondly, does "creative" ID still work these days?

If you have a good legit account where the person and address can be verified by eBay by a database check (a kind of soft credit check) you will be OK. They will suspend the payments for 5 days (you can still sell) whilst they verify the account and your performance, if it passes this usually no docs required. If it does not pass a MC011 will happen, a temporary selling suspension when you will be asked for ID verification.
