N.I Number Request - Legacy account

Finally got hit with a NI request on my legacy account from 2018. Just hit 3k in sales on this one. Payments were not on hold but got asked to add in my N.I. which I did. They will be reviewing it now. I entered the real number as I want to keep this account.

I changed all my stealth accounts (x7) to my own information around a year ago now; in preparation of having to add in my NI number - which I have now done for all - using the same N.I.
so far no apparent links

no apparent links? ebay do not care about your accounts as long as none of them attract attention , if they do they will be able to find you without problems , they only need full name and DOB

the probability that there is more than one person selling on ebay having the same name and DOB is minimal , almost non existent so if needed they just take out by these values and if someone turn out to have identical details it is bad luck for them

Did you give the same addresses too? I am thinking of doing this with a few individual accounts.

3k sounds like what any private seller could sell with an expensive motor, or musical instrument etc. I doubt the taxman would care about that money on any one account. The issue is if they ever tally it.

You dont need to give the same address, but if you do, you may go through the credit search without needing to upload ID. Without giving your electoral roll address you will need to provide ID. Sometime genuine DL's fail, most of the time Passports go through, but depending on how many accounts you have you may want to share around what verification you use.

The Taxman won't be coming after you for 3,6,9,12k etc lol. You could have only made £300 profit, they don't know what you spent or what your expenses were. You may have the usual 'have you told us about any additional income' letter, but thats about as far as it goes for now.

hi all,

I got request for NI number as well. Account nearly legit only missmatching last name, as it's maiden name used. If I will provide NI will they ask me to pay taxes to for past years? Account was doing 2.5-3k monthly

Nobody knows for sure, but in my opinion it's highly unlikely. Its also in my opinion highly unlikely they will be chasing anyone immediately either, but as ever at the moment, merely an educated guess.

Question do you think eBay have access to a N.I database? I know this question goes deeper than just stealth and I’m planning on sticking to the rules just curious.

Family and friends accounts and various platforms and Facebook marketplace will keep you out of trouble I’ve found

Only when Ebay has to do so

that's normal once you hit threshold. Providing your real NI number is the right move to keep the account in good standing. Just be patient while they review-it usually goes smoothly if all info is correct.

This is a load of AI generated rubbish, are you are a bot?

Info dosent need to be correct at the moment for it to all go 'smoothly'

Feels like ChatGPT kind of a answer indeed...

Like people said when one opened a 'Stealth' account?

After ten years, my Stealth accounts are toasty, none biting me in the nads.

You simply don't know, no one does.

Re: N.I Number Request - Legacy account

Are they asking everyone for NI numbers now? I still haven't started selling but logged into my account today and there was a section among the personal info to enter an NI number. It can't be due to sales because I have never sold anything on the account. In fact I have not sold anything on ebay in years..

I have a bad feeling that the grip is tightening. If they are collecting so much info then someone will want to link it all at some point. The UK seems to follow the US in that regard.
