Can't Change Ebay UK Bank Account
 

Hey,

Bit of a strange one. I had an ebay UK account go through the first batch of managed payments in stealth details ok. They obviously didn't verify anything back then in the first batch. The bank account I added was a savings account. Last year I changed all the details to be my real details, everything was fine. I'd now like to change the bank account. I go through the process then at the end it asks for the existing bank account, when I enter it, it fails. I think this is because it's a saver. Anyone else had this? Any work around?

I've seen people have contacted ebay and they have manually removed the bank account. I'm reluctant to do this as The name of the bank account on ebay is still the stealth details. That's the only thing I couldn't change when I changed all the details to be legit.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have doubts that it does not accept the bank , maybe wrong account entered?

if not you close down the bank account , wait until it disappears and make a withdrawal

this will get it removed on ebay for sure

Clear browser cookies, relog the account and re-try. - this is if you're 100% sure you are not making a typo when entering the old bank account. And only do this if you have access to the phone number on file too, cause they will require SMS verification.

Since you mentioned it's from the fist MP batch, I'm guessing the account is quite old now so it might be a glitch or bug on eBay side.(Happens quite frequently)

Do you think that would cause me problems though as the bank account listed on ebay is a stealth name and the account is in my real name?

in long term yes , short term it is only an issue if you make significant turnover but if you are a small fish execution can wait

Ok, Thanks, obviously on the Digital Reporting Ebay sent to HMRC the ebay account details are legit, but the bank name on ebay is stealth. Can you see that being an issue with HMRC?

if that becomes an issue with HMRC this means an investigation would already been in progress for other reasons like underreported income etc

Is clearing the cookies a good idea though? That'll potentially raise other flags like the bots thinking it's not the same laptop.

I do it all the time, as long as the IP remains the same and the account is in a general good healthy state, there's no harm doing that. Even eBay have advised me to do it on calls when I've had petty issues like this occur.:d

Even eBay have advised me to do it...oof, can't always say the reps there always give the best advice to follow.

I definitely wouldn't listen to anything ebay says to me lol.

Just that when you delete the cookes and cache, they'll start to look at the computer as a new machine and could trigger flags, captcha etc

I agree, aged cookies are priceless. It's not just eBay cookies either, cookies from Google and advertising networks can all help make your profile look more believable. They help keep your account trusted and can cut down on verification prompts. Tech support types always recommend clearing cookies and rebooting your computer, as it usually works and is easier than diagnosing the problem.

While the OP has already fixed his problem, for anyone else in the same boat, a better solution if you want to keep your aged cookies would be to create a new browser profile while using the same IP. Your fingerprint will be essentially the same but with no cookies, which should reduce the likelihood of any red flags from logging in without cookies. Log into eBay from the new profile to try whatever wasn't working. Whether it works or not, you can just delete the profile and go back to using your original one with the aged cookies intact.
