| defwax7 | 05-10-2026 02:30 PM | Old stealth account Anyone tried this.
I've got 3 old stealth accounts, last used 5 years ago, but not converted to managed payments yet. (not been on ebay for 5 years)
The laptop has changed since, so no old user accounts, browser, cookies etc, all lost when old laptop stopped working.
I now have a new laptop. So no old account history logged!.
Can is still make a new user account as before and change old stealth details to real details when logging in, or is it better to make a brand new ebay account with real details and forget the old stealth account conversion and move on?
Thanks in advance. |

Thanks in advance. | Don't try to change old stealth details to real details - this can trip security flags on eb side I am sure. |
| phaz0rz | 05-12-2026 01:52 PM | Re: Old stealth account I disagree. I can't comment on migrating a long dormant account to MP with real info, but what you're describing, OP, is what I did a few years ago when I moved my 3 formerly stealth accounts into MP. The only difference is the accounts I did it with were not dormant at the time.
As long as the info you give them can be verified, you'll be fine.
In my opinion it's always worth at least trying to salvage old accounts, rather than attempting to start over with a brand new account. |
| Nimble | 05-12-2026 03:32 PM | Re: Old stealth account I would suggest you create a user account, log into your stealth account, use it as is for a week or two and then change the details.
I say this because:
1. You have an account that has been completely dormant for 5 years. If you suddenly log in and change the Name, Address, and DOB from the ⊗⊗⊗⊗ stealth details to your real details, eBay’s security bots might flag it as an Account Takeover (a hacked account).
2. Because of the flag (and because it needs to transition to Managed Payments anyway), eBay might immediately freeze the account and ask you to upload a Photo ID and bank statement or docs to prove who you are.
I have done this successfully on 2 accounts, however, on one of the accounts they requested the ID of the previous account holder (this account had multiple policy violations).
Stealth is not dead, you can still create new accounts, but since you have 3 stealth accounts try it on one of them and if it doesn't work I'll help you get the other 2 fully verified. |

Some of you have seemed to have tried doing what i am thinking and come up with some sound advice here.
I do still have all the original information to hand, which i know i cannot use anymore and need to use real details except for the mobile phone numbers attached to file, as they have since expired.
I think rsot is right in the advice given, and i also think phaz0rz and Nimble advice are right in logging in and browsing around etc for a while before attempting a conversion.
By the way Nimble, have you had any success verifying long dormant or converting accounts that are still running? |

| Nimble | 05-23-2026 04:13 PM | Re: Old stealth account If you try logging into dormant account they will request an sms code to be sent to your mobile, email option won't be available.
If you do not have the same mobile number and try to change it there and then, they will request you provide ID document to prove your identity. The ID has to be in the name of the account holder.
If you need assistance with the ID part let me know.
I had to go through this with 2 accounts. On these I changed the details successfully but once I hit 800gbp in sales, ID was requested again, and was accepted.
The accounts have hit nearly 3k now and are operating fine. |
