Limited PP account.

Hi everyone. Private casual eBay buyer and seller here.
Used both PP and eBay since time began.

I was near the limit when I got the warning bell asking for more ID.

PayPal asked for a Credit Card statement which I sent and it was verified.
After that they then asked for photo ID, I refused.
My bank account was already linked to PayPal and verified along with 2 credit cards. My eBay account is clean with no defects.
How much ID does an non bank need huh?

Anyway, since I wouldn't play ball they limited my account with a near condescending email stating they don't see me as a person they can do business wth.

I know they limit private accounts to £3k per year and use EU money laundering rules as an excuse. The limit is PP's own rules as EU regulations don't state a limit on an account.

It appears I've been caught in the AI's pre crime net which lables innocent people as would or might be criminals. Pathetic is putting it mildly.

I did speak with them on the phone. The person on the other end was all to happy for me to had over my passport or drivers license. I smelt a data for sale rat straight away and refused.

Is there any real way to sort this out without me handing over my entire existence?

Thanks.

I take it this was your legitimate account and you are not a stealth user ?

Unless you are selling dodgy items why not just give your drivers license or passport ?

You don't live off grid. If authorities want to investigate you they can. People need to realise that.

No stealth accounts. Never heard of them until I saw this forum.
I only have one account for PP and one for eBay, which are linked.

No, nothing dodgy at all. I broke up and sold my PC gear. It wasn't that old and the parts were sold at the going rate. I did have a lot of other items which were acummulated over the years that also went up for sale taking advantage of the £1 FVF's. Oh, and some of the in-laws kids items because they don't have an eBay account.

Live off the grid???
I am not a criminal and won't be treated like one either.
Listen. I value the little privacy I have left in the digital world and I do this by not pasting my personal information all over the internet.
And since when did selling your unwanted items become a crime?

Neither my bank or credit card providers ask for photo ID.
The only one's who have my photo ID are myself and the Authorities, and it will remain that way.

This is data grab maddness and PP can take a hike as far as I'm concerned.

Yes but those are their terms and conditions. You can't bully them in to letting you use their platform because you are worried about privacy.

My question was is it worth the hassle of losing a genuine account ? Paypal have military grade security no doubt so there is a pretty low chance your passport details will ever fall in to the wrong hands.

The goalposts are moved on a regular basis and their £2.5k (£3k was a mistake I posted earlier) limit removal for more ID is a scam.
PayPal did the bullying, not me.

They have a mountain of my information and their demand for photo ID was just another attempt at selling another victims ID to the highest bidder.
Of course they can sell it if they want as long as I get my cut, isn't that fair enough?
This very idea has been suggested by the EU recently.

Military grade security? Pull the other one.
How many times have we heard that, only to hear a few years later they've been hacked and your information has been compromised.
