How does PP determine name of bank account matches PP name?
 

Is the check thru AI or is the check manual?

UPDATE:
It appears the check is manual as it says on final screen "All transfers are subject to review and could be delayed or stopped if we identify an issue"

there is likely an initial automatic check - the only way that true name of the bank account can be seen is if funds come out of the bank account into paypal e.g. microdeposit taken back, etc

Has it ever happened that a bank transfer/withdrawal has succeeded?
(under whatever the £ limit not to warrant a manual review)

A manual review can easily ascertain the bank account holder's name

Just like when you make a payment & enter details of account #, sort code, payee name.
If the payee entered doesn't match the payee per bank records...the process will highlight the mismatch & ask you to check the entry or continue

It's not a great technological leap for an automated approach to achieve the same result as above via API linking the computers

I dont think they do determine the name to be honest. So far I have had no issue adding bank accounts with mis matched names. Only for purpose of withdraw though.

So according to answers above from 2 members:

- name does not have to match to bank a/c
- address does not have to match to bank a/c

If so what's stopping from t/f to a friends account or a business account?


NOTE: there is present Limitation (Closure of your PayPal account) but can only withdraw funds. Can't send money nor spend funds shopping

you can actually diversify and withdraw to card instead of bank on paypal , in fact using a bank on paypal can be completely avoided , at least on paypal uk. I bet paypal only look into these areas when the account is already redflagged

regarding names , you can use a business bank account , on both paypal and bank you can define trading names , although I doubt this problem would occur with a business bank account

just in case you do not know: in the UK personal and business bank accounts are separate categories , I do not mean just in legal sense but in the practical sense , the bank must always know whether it is business or personal you are sending to , for example if I send a payment from my personal account at bank A to my business account in bank B and state it is a personal account the sending bank will tell it is not and will suggest to change the classification

Not much - once pp is verified with that friend or business bank account, then transfers can be done since bank account in different names do accept deposits

Added a WISE debit card successfully 4 days ago
But can't withdraw/transfer funds into it (even tried small amounts, every day).

Called PP Account Specialist who swear it should work.
However they say they can't override it from their side.

Does PP still accept t/f into WISE bank a/cs?
(can't keep up with what bank is accepted or not)

I can not tell about wise specifically but in general paypal have a block time for new cards , it is about 2-3 months , for that reason all applicable cards should be added in advance as there will be a longer waiting time for sure

You mean, block time (new debit card added) for withdrawals, right?

Not for payments made via the card

it has been like this for years , you add a new card and the system will be telling that withdrawal is not allowed

the best way out of this is to get multiple cards now , put them on file with paypal and wait

additionally I believe that such withdrawals are only possible with visa cards , the ones starting with 4

It will take a few months before they let you withdraw to the card added and the card has to be used a few times

Bank accounts allow withdrawals right away which is on eof the benefits of them and why its most peoples go to option

Wise personal won't work for mismatching names withdrawals though

Just to add (randomly) I found out very recently that you can only have 2 ebay accounts to the same bank account

Sorry to be a pedant but do any of the other online-only banks like Tide, Revolut etc allow withdrawals to non-matching names?

On an account in good standing, how do you use the attached debit card if it's the backup.
Just switch it to primary funding source now & again, and use it by spending or what?

you won't have problems with names if you use business bank accounts , I mean bank accounts not EMI accounts , with EMI no one knows - even if they are allowed today , they may not be tomorrow

additionally it is better to stay away from providers that are heavily used by non residents , like revolut. because such companies do not check the address , for example I had a problem on revolut a few weeks ago and was surprised that they asked to prove my address by providing a receipt for purchase of groceries

Again the issue you will have is the DD being rejected after a few weeks

The DD is there as a back up for paying the fees

The bank account should you you withdraw when you have funds avaliable to withdraw

Q1/ Should the just-confirmed bank show as active straight away (in place of 'Add a bank account')?
Or after the Direct Debit is setup?

Q2/ How long does it take for the Direct Debit to be setup before I can withdraw: a few days or immediately?
(plenty funds available)

Shouldn't need too - the bank will have it as an auto on file with pp

Noticed on checking my bank a/c that there's no active DD attached to it

Just have to wait a few days for the 2 small deposits to be credited to my a/c (said PP account specialist)

Is it a 3-5 days wait for 2 small deposits to be credited in order to verify the account?

(odd that PP wouldn't use Faster Payments to do the 2 small payments instantly)

OK, all sorted. Small sum transfer already CR to my current /ac

Saw the PP direct debit attached to the current a/c when I logged in this morning to my bank.
No two small deposits needed

Honestly the problem was PP site navigation

On the main transfer page showing 2 boxes (in minutes, no fee....in 1-3 days, Fees may apply)

Saw a small EDIT link > payment options (debit card, current a/c) > confirm > in minutes, No Fee > transfer £X now

I haven't used the account for 3years and i lost the phone number for paypal. After i change it, took 72h to apply the change and now i can login on the account.The bank and card attached are no longer in use, so my question is can i add miss match bank account/card (Revolut/Wise) and withdrawal the money from the account ?

NOTE the account dont have any limitation.

You should be able to add the bank and verify the account. Go slowly though - the account is not suspended, etc?
