Can't close bank account because of a 'PAYPAL HOLD'

UK ONLY !

I've been trying to close a bank account for months now but i can't because the bank say i must of signed a user agreement with paypal which has put a 'paypal hold' on my account .
Anyone know how to get round this issue and close the bank account ?

Seems like you are trying to do this with paypal? Of course they will not allow that. So you contact your bank and cancel the Direct Debit mandate. That stops paypal touching your money. Depending on your bank, it is preferable to go to the branch and do this. What bank?
Now the nice thing about this for a UK paypal is that you can still keep the account open: most UK banks will cncxl the direct debit
