This is an invalid bank account number

Abbey business accounts allow you to attach a Business Direct Saver account onto each account.

I was told by customer care that you can transfer money from Paypal into it but when I tried the direct debit set up I got the following message:

On , we attempted to transfer from your bank account, ending in ****. This transfer was returned by your bank on *** 2010 for the reason below:

This is an invalid bank account number.

As a result, this bank account has been disabled from your PayPal account. Please contact your bank for more information or add a new bank account. Please do not contact PayPal because this is entirely an issue between the account holder and their bank.

Yours sincerely,

PayPal

Tried again and Paypal have blocked the account number and I need to supply ID and fax the two amounts to Paypal.

So I'm guessing these saver accounts don't accept direct debits or something about the business account names not matching?

What would be the likely cause?

Would submitting ID be crazy considering I've sent that ID several years ago to reinstate suspended accounts before? Do you think they save this info?

medway30 04-20-2010 05:01 AM

Id say they dont accept direct debit mandates I had the same problem with rbs savers and after speaking to them they said they can accept money going into it and standing orders but no direct debit facilities

GreenBean 04-20-2010 05:17 AM

Rats. Savings accounts don't have a direct debit mandate. But if it's an Abbey Business account that does allow direct debit. (Even the Santander accounts do, same company now.) Sounds like a bank snafu to me. I've one Abbey Business account & it's fine:ranger:

I'd phone the bank and double check with them. Maybe take the approach I wanted to have an account that allowed DD access. Why have you given me an account that does not do this....that approach but politely. LOL.
And, bode, your old info is there. It's lying hidden waiting to trap you.

RBS savers do not accept DD, correct. But if you use RBS KEY account you are fine. I've a list of good banks for DDs. Will repost :spy:

do you know any banks allow you to open savers account that work?

GreenBean 04-20-2010 06:39 AM

Wish I did. Problem is 'savers' are such basic accounts that banks get little from them. Therefore they give little back, like allowing direct debit.

Have you looked at credit unions? What about Co-Operative Bank?

medway30 04-20-2010 07:22 AM

i can get a couple of basic accounts but once pal limit im screwed, i cant keep opening basic accounts can i? im with lloyds n rbs which are blacklisted and ive applied to nationwide and ING I cant use halifax so not many to choose from after nationwide n ING get limited which is bound to happen sooner or later

bode 04-20-2010 07:23 AM

I think I misunderstood customer care and assumed (or wishful thinking) that I could set up a paypal account using the saver account.

I'll open up another Abbey/ Santander business account. I wonder if there is a limit to the amount of accounts you can open? This will be the third!

medway30 04-20-2010 07:27 AM

I got a message from us bank accounts who ive just noticed is banned offering to open me an offshore bank accounts, anyone used any of these?

Thats what I would like to know, I cant see it looking good opening too many, in the uk anyway

GreenBean 04-20-2010 08:36 AM

aspkin does not allow scammers here, medway.

OK, RBS is blacklisted because you opened a savings account or for another reason?

medway30 04-20-2010 09:16 AM

I guess thats why he was banned then.

Ive used rbs with ppal a while ago and that ppal account has since been limited, so I cant use tht RBS or Lloyds account

oompaloompa 04-20-2010 10:35 AM

bode - sure this isnt something to do with the court action and same as probs you had with phone number?

medway - I get the feeling you are thinking of opening a stack of accounts due to being limited often, that stategy is not something that is useful, at some point bank alarm bells ring when opening so many accounts.....deal with
reasons for limitations, most accounts get routine ones but 180 day ones mean you are doing something wrong.

bode 04-20-2010 03:51 PM

Doubt it oompa because I was fully re-instated and they have no problem with me. This bank account is new and not related.

Besides my partially linked account didn't get suspended so I don't think they placed blocks. I'm sure it is down to the DD issue.
