serious problem

hi i have a serious problem

i am trying to send some money but im getting the option of sending payment by echeque only, can anyone help me understand why paypals system reverts to this and doesn't let you use your credit/debit card as a funding option?

GreenBean 05-07-2011 10:28 AM

Been happening infrequently with paypal uk. One of their 'glitches' they decline to take any responsbility over & deny it happens for me in any case.

Are you trying to pay in sterling or in another currency?.

hi no its in uk currency uk account to uk account

not sure what to do about this glitch really i rang them and they said its just an internal security system preventing me, maybe try in a few days. cheers paypal

autosweeper I've also noticed the same problem with this echeque rubbish.

Its a glitch I believe as GB says.

PayPal love an echeque because it is much less risk for them!

Having a second source of funds such as a credit card or second bank account should decrease the likelyhood of echeque, but as you have found, it can still happen. This is PayPal's security system for ya!

Forgot to mention that you should 'link and confirm' your card so it is fully verified, obvious but many people do not complete this. This will lower the chance of an eCheque.

Also, don't forget that you can contact the person receiving funds and they can deny the echeque so you can try again, this has worked for me in the past.

i hope this isn't them 'testing the water' on how buyers respond to echeques, the rate of abandonment etc, (this will allow them to verify the name on the bank acc).
Or it could possibly be them trying to do exactly that - looks like a system glitch, but is perhaps built-in. I hope not! :suspicious:

^ It is built in to their security system. Has been around for a bit now.
