Paypal Limited Account question

I've just received the dreaded Paypal emails saying both my personal and business accounts have been limited and funds frozen for 6 months and a permanent ban. Very unhappy indeed - their staff sound reasonable on the phone until you get the follow up emails stating the ban will never be lifted. Basically I sold something that fell foul of their guidelines, yet when I asked them for a list of prohibited items was told it's up to me to know what isn't allowed. Great.

Effectively being banned from Paypal means I can no longer trade on eBay either, so that's a long time on there with an untarnished history and 100% feedback down the drain.

If I manage to sign up with a new Paypal account and link it to my existing eBay account will this be traceable, or do I need to register for a new eBay account too?

Part of me is so angry I just want to forget the whole thing and simply move on and not use either ever again. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum, MrAngry :yar:

Lots of us here understand how you feel. I had the anger, the depression but then after finding this forum, found the BEST answer>

GET EVEN. Beat the bar stewards. Now that is not as easy as it sounds. But if you read the forum, you will read the success stories. And they are there.

Ideally you should start again brand new. that's the most practical approach. :)

Welcome to the forums - stealth + every info new = winner if methodology is good. All the best.

no suggestions in terms of reinstatement, other than to appeal it but it is unlikely to work.

so you sold just once and got banned? thats is not usual, there are normally takedowns and if you relist it then you can get in to trouble. Often though if you do not know it is a problematic item, your instinct is to simply relist it, and thats when you get strike 2, you can get banned at this point or its strike 3 and you are out...

have a look at forums, reassess whether you want to continue with ebay and go stealth, do nothing until you get some knowledge, do not link the paypal to another ebay...

Hi there Mr. Angry. Sadly yours is an all too common tale. If you do decide you want to trade there again this place makes it all possible. Sadly some people who come here pick up on a few bits and pieces and then assume that they know enough. The trick here is to garner as much knowledge as you can. Then get your game plan down and let the forum have a look at it. We can then tell you if it is a runner or not.

Good luck with it and please don't let the bar stewards get you down!!:yar:

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. OK, I've emailed Paypal's Brand Risk Management and have been denied re-instatement. Does this mean I may as well close my eBay account too? I honestly don't think I can be bothered with having anything to do with this company anymore. Life's too short. Screw them.

GreenBean 07-31-2011 11:08 AM

Dont close the ebay account. Let it just sit a bit. Have a bit of a breather, then work out how to start again.

Really, all of us know the story. Dont let them win :peace:

I agree with GreenBean and do not close the account, it sounds like good feedback that you can use off ebay

Just take a breather and consider your options.

Have you considered your own site and/or one of the alternatives? With both you can make use of that feedback.

Most people have felt the way you are feeling but it passes, and the fact you are here shows you have not giving up totally.

I closed my eBay account yesterday but they say it takes several months to close permanently. I don't see how I will be able to use it if I am unable to use it in conjunction with Paypal. Most of my eBay purchases were from outside the UK where Paypal is required, and as you know many sellers won't accept payment any other way.

If I somehow manage to set up a new Paypal account and re-link it back with my existing eBay account, surely it will eventuaLly be closed again?

GreenBean 08-01-2011 07:02 AM

Get back in touch with ebay and cancel the cancellation of the account.
Trust me they'll happily do that. (so smart like that ;)
If you get the account back, let it sit there. (More later as to why).

If you already have an existing data base of clients you could start again with a brand new ebay account AND a brand new paypal. You could email those clients off ebay of course about your new business venture 'I Got Stuffed by Paypal Inc' but I'm beating them. Do you follow me?

This round you have a business account instead. You give yourself a layer of protection from ebay/paypal by doing that.

So long as the IP cookies etc are different, it is workable.

Just ONE favour, dont go off and do anything with ebay without speaking about it here.
It's easier to tweak plans B4 they get made, than retrieve them afterwards.

I'll repeat this. It IS possible to beat ebay/paypal. Get that mindset going:juggle:

I actually had two eBay and two Paypal accounts, personal and business. Both Paypal accounts were limited as they were both linked to me.If you really think they are borth worth keeping then I will, but I see no point as I am unable to link them to new Paypal accounts - won't Paypal see it's me and ban me again?

\as I said, I'm not really sure I can be bothered trying to use Paypal again - why should I let them make money off me again after treating me like this? Seems a bit pointless. I've since signed up with Google Checkout and Western Union. Direct UK bank account transfers are easy too. I'm very wary about using Paypal ever again.

None of those are any good for selling on eBay.

Bank transfer all the way for of ebay transactions.
