Catalouge of info req by PP - any ideas why?

Hi,

Was running a stealth account with verified PP. Wanted to lift the £1900 limit but the system did not recognise my details and said docs were needed.

Faxed docs, was told they were not good enough and that they wanted alternatives even though data would have matched. Two days later, before I had chance to supply more, I got an eBay message saying I was suspended (it said there would be another email saying why but there hasn't been so far) and an email from PP limiting my account.

In the resolution centre they ask for the following - anyone come across this before? I can come up with photo ID, utility bill. Invoices are a problem as I've only been selling a few personal items and am not a business trader. I have no outstanding cases. Proof of delivery? We're talking £1-£5 items sent by ordinary mail?! Only 1 neg feedback for non receipt (person was refunded). As for matching phone number to account - not sure how I can pull that off...

Opinions as to what might be going on and whether this account is likely be be salvagable would be appreciated!

Photo ID and Utility Bill. You got those? Upload them.

Goto voipfone and buy a phone number that matches the location of the account.

If all the items you've sold are used, phone them up and tell them "I'm selling my old stuff from round the house" Then they'll say OK we don't need invoices.

Also explain, that as the value of the items sold was so low, you chose to send by standard post, and then it will delay things a little as they will wait for feedback to come in.

Not much of an opinion - you want to try to save the account? Do the steps - sometimes gets through, sometimes no. All the best.

oompaloompa 07-29-2011 03:57 PM

yes I have come across this before, submit what you can...which bits are the problem the invoices?

stealthmaster 07-29-2011 04:08 PM

Couldn't you just get a invoice template?

SUVE 07-29-2011 04:22 PM

So it would appear that utilising some form of stealth ebay/paypal A/C could leave you with a tricky situation like this....hmm.

Thanks for the quick replies and advice guys.

Photo id: I faxed them copies of my disabled bus pass and student card, with name amended to that I am using on the stealth account. They said these were not enough and that if I did not have a driving licence or passport (i dont) then a utility bill and birth cert would suffice. They then sent this long list of demands before i had chance to respond! With a photocopier and tippex I can send them a birth certificate. I also have a bank account in the relevant name so can send statement in place of utility bill.

Yes, invoices are a problem, oomp, but as stealthmaster says, templates could be the answer. To be honest though i have not sold anything of note - its only a couple of months old and I was building it up gradually selling daft little things like houseplant cuttings and CDs to get some feedback. Phone is a prob too.

Yes, RSOT, i do want to save the account - I am running out of bank accounts!

MeVeBay, I was wondering about that as a phone solution but i am just wondering, at this stage are they not likely to do a 'directory enquiries' type check to make sure the name and number match?

Again, cheers all for your help. Any more feedback appreciated as i want to be sure about what i am. doing before I act!

Remember Google is your best friend! :)

P.S I might have the solution you are looking for PM me!

Soho66

Thanks. Granny - I appreciate that Soho66 will give me an appropriate number and will be using them for a new Stealth account but I was thinking that in the current case, where PPs suspicions are already roused, they'd do some kind of OSIS check (ie Directory Enquiries) to see if the name matches the number? Or do you think I'm being over cautious? I would have thought they would have asked for my phone bill as both proof of address and to resolve this issue - that would be difficult!

I was thinking of faxing the following to PayPal - any comments from anyone before it goes...? It was difficult to resist a sarcastic offer to send them a DNA sample.

Dear arseholes (ok, ok -might re-phrase...),

Further to your unexpected and extraordinary list of requests, I will address your points in turn:

Photo ID is attached at the end of this fax. This is in the form of my local Government-issued bus pass and my student ID card.

Proof of address is attached. To be safe I have attached three different items - my mobile phone bill, a bank statement and my Equifax Credit Report.

Also attached, as per your earlier email, is a copy of my birth certificate.

As regards invoices, please note that I am not a business seller – I sell items from around my home. If you look you will see that there are houseplant cuttings and an old IKEA table!

Other than that, all I have sold is stamps. These were obtained by sorting through a 20kg sack of charity-collected stamps that I acquired years ago and so do not have an invoice for. I have attached an itemised list of every item I have ever sold so you can confirm the voracity of this statement for yourselves.

As you can infer from the above, I do not have “suppliers”.

I do not have any “outstanding disputes or claims”.

As for proof of delivery, many of the items I have sold are worth £1 or a few pounds, as you will see from the itemised list referred to above. These were therefore sent by ordinary 1st class post, so the only “proof” of delivery I can give you is to refer you to the positive feedbacks that the buyers have sent on receipt.

The IKEA table was collected in person. I attach the details of the buyer so you can call him should you feel the need to confirm he collected it.

As for the phone number you do not make clear how I am supposed to confirm that it matches my address. My number, which has changed since I initially opened my account, is xxxxx and my address is xxxxx

The only item of value was in fact 19 items bought in one go from one buyer, totalling £227.99. Again I refer you to the 19 positive feedbacks received upon receipt but if you wish to check for yourself, the Royal Mail Tracking Number for this order was: xxxxx

I trust this address your concerns and look forward to your early confirmation that my account is full restored.

Love and kisses, pward33 (ok, might re-phrase that bit too!)

Send in your letter and your supporting documentation. Wait a couple of hours and ring them up for faster service.

All the best.

A belated update. Thanks all for your advice. Paypal 'denied' my 'appeal'. At the same time, eBay suspended me, saying they could not tell me why, but i could appeal in 30 days.

I could only assume ebays decision was either at the behest of pp, or as a result of three negs received after I was briefly taken ill and could not send goods.

Anyway, i sent the goods with explanatory letters and they all kindly revised the feedbacks to positive. I emailed ebay to point this out and they promptly reinstated my account. Interestingly, despite it being pp that originally caused the problem, they said they were contacting pp, telling them to remove their 'related' suspension... which indeed they have.

So, I am up and running again -with a backup account supplied by imakemoney - shameless plug for this good seller - but I find the dynamics here interesting and thought sone of you might too.
