Default Paypal Limited + ID Request

Hey,

I'm sure this same query has come up on here 100 times, but everybody always seems to have some element of the issue that is significant enough that it needs its own answer.

Let me briefly outline the situation:
I have 3 eBay accounts all funding/associated with one Paypal.
A personal account and 2 selling accounts.
I also do a huge amount of Paypal requests.

- Paypal initially contacted me saying I had earned £1650 since January and that I would be required to provide more info and have the £1900 limit lifted. The only effect placed was that I could not close the account.

- Today, Paypal contacted me saying they have no documentation on file and have requested ID and utility bill. The account is now limited and I cannot touch the money in the account (only £18 thankfully).

This Paypal account is linked with my main bank account, the bank account I use for everything basically. I don't mind if i lose this Paypal as it's been one I've had for 7 years, and I would rather have separate accounts (both Paypal accounts and bank accounts) for business and personal.

As this is a personal account, I am extremely reluctant to provide Paypal with any personal information. Where do I stand if I choose not to send ID/address details? Does the account just become barred? Will the money eventually become accessible?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks for reading!

once they ask for info, you usually need to provide it to them or the restriction is not lifted.

anyone that wants to avoid this must stop receiving under £1600, maybe even as low as £1200 and wait til reset date.

ebay and paypal still sometimes ask for info randomly or at yearly review, even if you stay under those amounts....

It is those European regulations that PP is citing.

The Paypal has now become Permanently Limited as it has been linked to activity on an eBay account.

I PM'd GrannyT about this as I was concerned on what happened next but she said not to worry and after 180 day paypal would release the held amount.

That's right 180 days in some cases you can get it before then but very very rarely.

what is 'reset date', oompa?

i remember ages ago being asked to do something to lift limits on my (real) account, can't remember what it was but it was very minor, i did it, and think the limit was lifted straight away. was certainly nothing like sending in personal documents though..... oh how times have changed!

stuckinarut- can i ask what docus they ask for in terms of Id? i'm just interested to know for the future... like do they specifiy "it must be one of the following: pasport, drivers licence, xx, yy," or do they just say please provide Id?

Reset date is like 9th January every year, at least mine was.

I had the lift limits request, then request for documents as 'there was none on file'.

I can't remember the specifics diamonda, but they do specify.

It's like a laundry list.

You get asked for any of the following passport, driving licence, utility bill. Some limitations may ask for invoices & receipts.

Started from a policy update in April. Wording of the 180 day email changed to a little.

Email that comes out is relevant to the type of limitation & differs by account.

Nothing more on the allegations of fines been heard.

Were you selling 'special items'

Just so i can keep everyone in the loop, although GreenBean has helped me alot, I will keep updating this thread.

Special items, would be a good description!

I have come up against another issue.

A customer set up ebay dispute - never received item - wants refund.
I am happy to refund the customer, i just don't want to be logging into them accounts anymore!
With the EB account being blocked there is very little I can do on there.
However I said I would refund the buyer but when I select refund, it says it cannot be processed. This is probably due to the PP account being limited.

I really don't know what the next move is.
I did send them item but i also found out this guy is a postman, which makes me slightly pessimistic about his true intent!

PP will refund the customer & the refunds will be debited from your PP attached bank A/C.

Why don't you want to log into them banned EB/PP any more ??? Well, you have tried to log in to issue a refund......

Thanks for that SUVE, I was hoping that would happen.

Haha, i know saying that i dont want to access those accs sounds really dodgy! But let me put it this way, i worry and i panic, when I log into both those accounts, they make you feel like s**t. Blocked, suspended, limited, all of those terms are nasty and as I said, I don't want to constantly be thinking about it or have to log into them daily.

There is nothing more to it than that! Had 100% positive feedback on the ebay acc, very happy customers, but now that its blocked, i don't want to be reminded that I was selling something ebay doesn't necessarily agree with!

But what actually is it? I've never heard of reset date before- what does it mean and what does it do? And I'm assuming it's not 9th jan for everyone, it differs for every different account?

^^ thanks- wow- never even heard of reset date before, despite being with eb/pp for nearly ten yrs: how does one go about finding out what their reset date is?

and from the post earlier, to use the factor of reset date in order to avoid getting limited, you should stop at around £1200 received before reset date? after this date has passed you're good to go and just carry on as normal? or after passing the first date does this continue- i.e. is there another higher amount £xxxx you should stop at once again second time round to allow the next/second reset date to pass?

look under 'view limits'

after the date passes you can take up to another £1900 for that year, but as you said to
avoid the request you need to stay below, most people say they get the request at £1650, but few people have said as low as £1200.
