I could really use some advice about an issue with the "confirm location" part of lifting my UK PayPal account's limitation. The account was made last year and never used, I did not use my real information (which, as I've now learned, is called "stealthing"
) and had actually forgotten about that account until recently.
I then wanted to update the account with a new e-mail address, phonenumber and eventually also change the address, all in preparation for using that account for digital buying (non-eBay related). PayPal limited the account, or rather, as they lovingly call it, "your account access", after I had added another phonenumber. Ironically that number was to be used for phone verification and is actually useable, the original number (that I purposefully did NOT remove before adding the new one, not that it would have mattered, I guess) is not. The reason for the limitation, according to PayPal, is "We want to make sure that no one has logged in to your account without your permission.". Duh.
To remove the "account access limitation" PayPal had me change the password and security questions, and then I was kinda stuck on the part about "confirm location" as obviously I do not have a UK credit card or bank account. After reading up on it, especially on this forum, I opened an EntroPay account, got it verified, and created a VCC with it.
When I used that VCC during the limitation removal process however, PayPal threw me back to the account overview page and simply displayed "You have not linked a credit card to your account. The Phone Location Confirmation process has been cancelled." above the nice red "Your account access has been limited. We freakin' hate you." banner. I tried it a few more times but didn't get any further - phone confirmation is out of reach ... . The EntroPay VCC did, however, get added to the account ... I can't remove it, thanks to the limitation, but it's definitely on file.
That is pretty much the story up until now, the things I'm wondering about are:
#1 It seems as if there are 4 pounds on "hold" or otherwise not useable on that VCC now (out of 10 pounds initial top-up), without any trace of it on the EntroPay statement. Any ideas why that might be?
#2 Why did PayPal not accept the VCC to continue with phone verification, although the card itself works fine (tested it today with something non PayPal/eBay-related) and is even on file in the PayPal account, and how can I finally proceed to phone verification and get the limitation removed? Are there any other unpleasant surprises, err I mean further steps in that process after phone verification?
#3 If the answer to #2 is to buy another, non-EntroPay-VCC, which seller can be recommended, and are there truly AVS UK VCC that WILL, absolutely WILL, work in that "confirm location" during limitation process removal scenario? If the fact that the account is already limited makes any difference, that is. I really do not want to buy a VCC from a third party and then have it linked and stuck on that account too.
I think there was a thread here where someone had a similar issue when adding a VCC during the confirm location part of the limitation removal process and his account got un-limited a few days after without him doing anything (I can't find the link to that thread right now, sorry), well, that's not the case with my account, although it's been about 10 days now since I added the VCC and also got the exact same error message as that person.
I do not want to use the account again in the future, there is only a two digit sum in funds in it (from sending myself money with my real account, that was before I knew of ANY of that limitation stuff) that I would obviously like to refund to myself, but it's really more about closing that account for real and "clean".
tl;dr - UK PayPal account throwing error message ""You have not linked a credit card to your account. The Phone Location Confirmation process has been cancelled." " when adding a working EntroPay VCC to said account during the third stage of the limitation removal process (confirm location, the phone verification would be next); card got added to the account but the process is stuck (although repeatable, could add more cards) and phone verification can't be triggered; how do I best proceed now?
Any advice, hints and tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks everyone in advance.
