PayPal eCheque processing questions
 

A buyer opened a dispute on paypal and I fully refunded him and it closed the dispute however, when I tried to refund my balance went a red colour as though I had negative balance even though I had £49 in there, and then it showed it had to be done via an echeque, I accidently accepted and now very worried it's all toast.

I don't understand why it didn't take it from the balance, and also is it worth CANCELLING the echeque? the bank is naatwest

Only reason that a e-check got issued for the refund is because you didnt have enough funds in your paypal account.

Was the refund more than £49 ? if so then it will request the full value as an echeque from your bank account. They do not do part payments with refunds.
( eg: £49 from paypal & rest from bank)

Natwest is fine, i have had no problems, so you should be safe.

There was £49 balance, no 21 day hold and the refund was for $12. it was very strange

Was it the dollars that confused pp?

A one off time is unlikely to cause issues in the large scheme of things - make moves to avoid repetition. It's actually not a bad thing leaving that amount in PP and doing the refund via e-check...will show your bank is valid but...1) real name can be seen but people have done this before once in a while and 2) hope no fees by the bank for withdrawal

1 time...I would let it go through but only because a) one time is low risk of causing problems and b) you are going to be asked a fee by the bank to do a stop payment (unless you have a bank plan on the account)...OH and if echeck FAILS on your side, pp can cause your account to go limited...I wouldnt risk that.

Sorry I wasnt clear on that in the early post - PP hates failed bank uploading ...either they will remove the bank AND/OR you get limitation.

You cannot cancel an echeque at the bank. You actually have to call paypal to do this.. but i would NOT do this. It will make them look into other things on the account.

Natwest is alright with mismatched names so it will be fine, just make sure you have funds in the account so the echeque does not fail.

Echeque can not be cancelled.

paypal rarely allow this to happen. It is stated in their T&S.

Your bank will not help very much either.

These funds are going thro' the banking system so it is not likely the bank can retrieve them.

Your real name is there but unless paypal deliberately looks, there should not be an issue. Majority of users have few problems with echeques.

Make sure your NatWest account has enough funds for the transaction.
You should be fine.

Depending on your business plan, for the future, consider having a balance to cover refunds.

I used to panic over echeques like this. Made sure there were funds and took away one worry with paypal.

I have had a problem with currency and echeque. That was what I meant.
I now keep a balance of each currency I use on my UK paypals .

if you need to refund someone in another currency to avoid echeque go to the my money section on ebay and create a currency balance as greenbean says.
Then issue the refund in the format you was paid in for the transaction.
In your case $USD.
If you do not do this first it will go down the echeque route no matter how much you have in your paypal account in £GBP
