Can paypal access funds from Bank?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find it.

One of my paypal accounts (no eBay attached) has gone into a negative balance after an elaborate buyer scam. It is a stealth account and has a bank account attached (current account). I have stopped/canceled the direct debit instruction to paypal from my bank (Barclays). I have tried to prove my case to paypal (tracking numbers, invoices, receipts, etc), but they sided with the buyer, and my balance is still in negative. They have not yet tried to touch my bank account. However, I am aware that they will try to get the funds from my account eventually.

Here is my question: would paypal be able to access the funds from the bank? Or can I just leave this paypal account to rot?

Another question on the same note, if this happens to my actual account what options do I have?

Thanks in advance!

If the Paypal account isn't limited, remove the bank account as well (if limited you wont be able to).

Cancelling the dd mandate should be enough to prevent them from being able to take the funds.

It has, however, previously been reported that occasionally paypal have still been able get money despite the dd mandate being cancelled. I'm fairly sure this happened to Greenbean (or someone she knew).

Remove the bank to be on the safe side. pp is pp and can't be trusted :(

Very good advise being given. Remove that bank account if you can.

Normally so long as I have tracking PayPal will side with me, seems like yours was a very tricky one.

Stealth or otherwise procedure is to formally instruct the bank to remove the direct debit mandate.

I suggest you get this in writing from the bank ( to cover yourself). You must also be aware that there is a time frame where a transaction may be happening, and it may be too late for removal of the mandate.

Timing is crucial.

Should paypal be so inclined, they will reserve their rights to attempt to recover the debt. Keep that in mind too. If you have suitanbly instructed the bank, you should not be liable for overdraft fees. This is what you must ensure you have happen.

Good Luck
