Adding new bank account to PayPal account
 

I want to add another bank account to my existing PP account. However the account is in the name of a friend who no longer wishes to bank the money for me but is happy for me to continue using his PP account. The question is, does the new bank account I want to register with the PP account have to be in his name or can I add one in my name? I've been told that elsewhere that PP doesn't check the name of a new bank account, only the account number. Is that correct?

Make a bank account using your own real ID. Get the numbers and add those to paypal.

When you go to do this, there will be a message from PAYPAL saying names must match.... it is OK to ignore that. ;)

Make sure the stealth name is used only.

Try to get a current or basic account for ease of use.

What bank will you use? Avoid Lloyds.

Thanks, I shall avoid Lloyds then and go for the Halifax instead.

You can add in your own account but why do you want to operate accounts in your friend's name? Why not make stealth accounts of your own?

PP has effected a few changes re. bank account. I will use the example of a savings account, as current/basic accounts accept DD.

Here goes.

1).
If you add a bank account and leave it, then nothing happens. You are OK. There is a new prompt (PP saying bank account "can only be used for withdrawal"). Nothing happens.

2).
If you add a bank account and submit the DD mandate, you will get the 4-digit code. Even if you don't confirm the code, the DD mandate is sent. As it's a savings account, the DD mandate will fail and PP will remove the bank account. You will also get an e-mail. I will cut and paste this e-mail later. Note that the prompt will still be "can only be used for withdrawal".

3).
If you confirm the 4-digit code, you will have a verified PP account. The prompt will still be "can only be used for withdrawal". If the DD mandate fails, the bank account will be removed.

I don't know what the repercussions are (yet). Haven't seen anything (apart from PP promptly removing the offending bank account in 1-2 days (if savings and the savings a/c left on PP after verifying code).

P.S. Re. 'prompt', it's that question mark (?) thing that is shown near your bank account details.

are barclays current accounts ok to use with stealth paypal?

They are fine for stealth paypals.

I already have a Lloyds Bank account into which I pay my salary. If I open say a Barclays account for stealth payments linked to PayPal, won't they ask that I pay my salary into THAT account instead? If I open a basic saver type account with Barcs, won't that be rejected by PayPal?

i have hsbc and barclays, but paypal have emailed to say payments cant be funded from these accounts but as i dont aim to fund the account i dont see that as an issue
