PayPal holding money after first sale
 

I sold my first item through PayPal for £4.50 and they are withholding the money for up to 21 days, this is what they are saying below.

Based on your history as an eBay seller, we may temporarily hold the money from each of your eBay transactions in a pending balance. We may hold this money for up to 21 days from the date we let you know it is "OK to send" the relevant item.

Is this due tom me or to the person who has sent the money? PayPal makes things so difficult.

This is normal behaviour your money is not available in case there will be any complain for the items or the transaction.

Yes all new accounts get this. Usually for the first 3 months but some people are lucky enough to have it removed sooner.

The only way to get your funds released quicker than 21 days is to mark the item as dispatched in eBay and to add a tracking number. It drops the wait time down a week for each one added.

It's due to paypal playing a power game. They stick holds on all new accounts.

75 cents is the lowest amount I have known.

They seem to be putting holds on old accounts as well now. I have accounts that have never been used but are 1-2 years old, and they are receiving holds on all payments not just ones from Ebay.

guys all you need to do is use a tracking number on your packages, you enter that into ebay auction when you ship and the minute the delivery is confirmed, through, usps, fedex, ups, etc then paypal releases the money and you dont have to wait 21 days.

use tracking number and you wont have to wait.

edit, whoops saw bun was hip to this fact too.

Ive noticed too over the past month that all incoming payments receive 21 holds regardless of whether they are ebay or not. It never used to be like this for me though if the payment was non-ebay related.
Is it something new Paypal is doing?
Or should I be looking for the cause in something Im doing?? Im a bit perplexed, as I don't believe Im doing anything different with these new accounts that have been getting the 21 day hold

The release of funds doesn't always happen because you add tracking to your shipment. It definitely helps to add tracking (uploaded to EB) because that does seem to shorten the time frame. PP is gonna hold that money when you first start out to make sure the customer has time to complain. As you sell more (and you are uploading tracking to EB), you will see your wait time, on funds being held, get shorter and shorter. One day, usually around 90 days, give or take a month, you will see instant payments.

Bout 3-4 years ago, I remember seeing holds on a 23 cent (or around that) payment of mine

In my years of testing I have found that 25 fb and 90 days a large majority of accounts will release the paypal holds.

If the account is ran correctly.

I never see a single 21 day hold ever.

Normally 2-3 days after delivery or feedback is left money is released.

Ship fast and money will be released quickly.

by adding tracking u most likely to get paypal suspicious if the items are shipped from a location thats totally different from yours?

worth thinking about i d just ship and request that the buyer leaves u feedback

No how can they be suspicious? People travel a lot in the uk.
Some people work hours from home etc..

I doubt they have the time or manpower to sit there investigating every tracking number entered into eBay.

They only look if you give them a reason to.

Positive feedback no longer releases funds at least for US, I ship all priority mail so it usually takes 3 days for delivered and than funds released date is always marked 3 days after but they are usually released in 2 days so total wait time is 5 days from shipping which is no big deal

And don't worry about where your shipping from as long as the tracking number is legit
