Re: uK banks

Has there been any recent investigation into Lloyds and TSB or is it an assumption that TSB is a no go because it has split from Lloyds?

What kind of investigation you need? If it doesnt work...it doesnt work...

I think it does work. I've been using Lloyds for 2 years with no problems. I'm now using TSB, also with no problems.

fine.

For those of us who had massive issues, we say avoid the bank.

It's a customer choice.

Had massive issues in the past or have ongoing issues?

Halifax is good. Enables you to open multiple accounts from within your internet banking without any paperwork needing to be posted or any visits to your local branch. It takes minutes.

HSBC took about 6 weeks to open up an account due to forms needing to be sent off and waiting for security codes ect from their end. Whether or not I can now open multiple accounts from within internet banking like Halifax I don't know as I haven't checked. Hopefully I can.

Halifax, BOS, Lloyds and TSB use identical systems.

I haven't used HSBC for a while, but when I did, you were able to open a few savers very easily immediately and able to have them closed online when you were finished too, using the secure message system.

I use HSBC for the UK accounts - works well but that's my own experience

In the lists of banks being used for stealth, the very ones you mention do pop up with issues more than the other banks available in the UK.

There are other High Street banks that rarely rate a mention as giving hassles for stealth paypals.

Savers are better to be avoided if basic accounts can be opened. Current accounts top both of them.

For me and the setup I use, Lloyds group savers are just perfect. As are HSBC savers and Santander savers.

Is there any particular reason you open saver accounts rather than current accounts?

peghmeypong 12-01-2014 08:50 PM

Re: uK banks

Yeah - credit searches! Any more than one or two current account searches in 6 months count against you in the UK!

A £500,000 mortgage, £50,000 loan and a current account all count as the same thing in credit searches.

If you have more than two, it could seriously count against you if you needed a credit card or car finance.

Re: uK banks

No credit searches for savers.

You are mistaking 'credit search' here.

Do you know that?

What's the mistake?

Callidus 12-02-2014 05:18 AM

Re: uK banks

You only get credit searched if you are applying for 'credit' on a savings account there is no line of credit available. If you do not have a current account or any account with that bank then they will ID check you and nothing more which would be classed as a soft check.

Applying for a full on current account requires a credit check as well as an ID check as the possibility of you having an overdraft facility is there. Forum recommends basic accounts because the full credit check isn't needed thus less risk of having issues getting multiple accounts.

Still not clear on mistake.

JamesNorth101 12-02-2014 06:09 AM

Re: uK banks

Savings accounts do have a credit check, its just a soft credit check.

peghmeypong 12-02-2014 06:13 AM

Re: uK banks

Yeah, one which doesn't count against you and can't be seen by anyone other than the applicant. I was oversimplifying.

More of an ID check.
