Dreaded Error
 

Looks like that "paypal server is experiencing difficulties" issue is making a comeback.

I have a few old/aged accounts, which I created and left them, doing nothing else. Wanted to add bank account and then card now. When trying to add bank account, it gave this error.

Might work with a brand new PayPal account. But that defeats the purpose of wanting an 'aged' PP account to link to my 'aged' ebay account.

This su*ks, as it's basically the summer, and this is when my sports (notably golf) stuff sell well.

Yes theres a very strong chance they will add fine to a new PayPal, it tends to be an issue with ones that have sat that for a long while.

It's PayPal and it wont get easier

Generrally its best to avoid ever ringing PayPal, but for adding a bank account its a pretty easy phone call and rarely results in issues with the PayPal ccount (even if its a savings bank account)

Why should there be an issue in the first place?

There are a few EB accounts, nicely aged, sold some 'regular' stuff like CDs and items under 5-10 quid, bought some stuff, etc. 'Aged' PP accounts attached to these 'aged' EB accounts, card attached, some funds in there from above sales.

Am now ready for the sports sales. Why can't I add bank account? Am seriously considering opening my own site.

There are also 'aged' EB accounts, where I bought small things with card. These EB accounts are not linked to PP accounts. Have 'aged' PP accounts, where I opened them and left them to age.

All of these PP accounts... can't add bank account.

But it worked with a new PP account I just opened. PayPal sucks!

Yeah, that we know.

Problem is... adding a new PP account to an EB account that is ready to sell... that's just asking for trouble.

So far, I am managing OK. 60-70% of orders/sales are from people who have bought from me before. I was honest and told them the issues with PP. We e-mail outside PP and I send them woods, balls, irons, etc. without PP in the middle.

It's the new customers that I am losing. Or not getting. And summer is short! Especially our UK summer!


EB UK should be forced to accept all sorts of payment methods. I will then happily bid PP goodbye and good riddance.

Always type a warning statement before inserting a pp or eb link by the way

Sod them. You would have thought that separating would make PP lees of a pain and EB accepting different payment methods.

Am simply bypassing them. I tell those who win my bids or those who pay now that I don't accept PP. We close the sale outside of EB/PP. Their loss.

Have to be careful with some customers, but touch wood, so far so good.

I wouldn't expect that to be successful with many sales.
Depending on the amount involved most buyers prefer the security of paypal and many would not only suspect a non paypal request to be an attempt at fraud its quite likely to get your ebay account suspended once somebody reports you to ebay.
As I'm sure you're aware every email sent to a winning buyer will tell the buyer specifically not to close the deal unofficially and its also against ebay rules .
Once a buyer pays by paypal it registers on your Sold listings so if you get enough sales where the payment is not automatically added via paypal this may arouse ebays suspicions.

I tried it over a short period to bypass the 21 days hold over funds but it resulted in paypal stepping in aswell as losing sales from those buyers who didn't want to do it.

I'm a stealth ebay and paypal user and I don't rip people off but I must admit I don't think I would pay outside paypal either if a seller requested it because it does seem dodgy

Firstly, this particular account is my main seller account. My real name.

Secondly, I have made it clear on a different thread. New customers, yes, difficult, I lose new customers. But sales are mostly 'consumables', i.e. repeat customers who know me and trust me. On things like golf sets, indeed, you don't buy this every week, but balls and tees and whatnot are different.

Thirdly, I don't mince my words. I tell new customers as it is.

Finally, I also tell PayPal the same thing. They have an effed up system - and they know it. But they finally added my bank account now.

Does it really matter?
It's against ebay and paypal rules and regardless of how many buyers are happy to do it (I assume you have high feedback) it only takes a couple of reports to ebay and your ebay account will get a selling ban as you're breaking what is their number one rule.

We'd all like to bypass Paypal but eventually doing so will catch up with you.
And all those buyers that refuse not to use paypal will be lost sales and fees that you may not get back.
I'm not sure many sellers will be happy to complete a "Cancel transaction" request because you don't want paypal.

How do you stop the payments coming in? Assuming they are Buy It Now most people will pay instantly so you'd have to refund buyers.
More than a few refunds are a red flag to paypal
