How long before I withdraw funds?
 

Recently sold a collectors item from my personal collection for quite a nice amount. I'd obviously like to withdraw the money but not sure how long to wait in case they decide they're unhappy for some reason and I need to refund.

I usually withdraw funds straight away as I sell low priced items and it wouldn't hit me so hard. But this was an expensive transaction.

The transaction was to someone in the US. The item arrived on July 31st. This buyer seems like quite a nice fellow based on previous communications. He was very grateful for tracking information and seemed very excited that the item had reached the United States so quickly.

The item was packaged brilliantly. It would take a lot for it to have been damaged during transit.

I have sent him a message saying I can see it has arrived and asked him if he was happy. I've left him positive feedback and I also included a note with the item asking him to contact me directly if he has any problems.
I know it's only been 4 days but I've heard nothing and received no feedback.

Also, based on the feedback he leaves for sellers, he hasn't left any within the last 6 months for anybody he has purchased from.

I'm down as a private seller, not business, and I stated that returns were not accepted. I would really like to withdraw this money but don't want to act too quickly. How long should I wait?

If you want to withdraw the funds but are afraid of the refund, then why not just contact him?
(I assume you sent it with tracking info?) If so, then:

message them and tell them that tracking shows that item arrived and that you hope that the item was not damaged in mail and that everything is OK- Mention that you took real care with packing and that you've heard about bad experienced from other people, so you just wanted to make sure everything was OK.
You can then mention item characteristics or something that you found "unique" or "nice" about the item, just like you would do if you'd give a book to a friend.

why would you say these things? So that when he answers to you, he'd have to talk about same points, thus confirming that he is also happy with the item and that it arrived safely.

OR, you can just go ahead and take the money and hope for the best.

I would take the money out now.

From my experience of selling collectables, if someone receives a mid-high value collectable they check, double check, and triple check as soon as they open it. If there was the slightest problem they would be on to you straight away, certainly within 48 hours tops.

Don't leave anything like a largeish amount in your PayPal, ever, Elisek, this forum is full of people who have for one reason or another done just that, it can end in tears before bedtime!!

If there is a problem and u need to refund you can always load a VCC , ENTROPAY works great for this, u can use your bank debit card as a funding source for a VCC u create

I didn't think you could fund a return via a VCC?

I always thought it had to come straight from your PayPal balance or the bank account you have attached (which is a bad idea with Stealth).

agree with rosietosie - when your funds are in paypal quite simply CASH OUT!!! as you never know what trick theyl pull - draw it out asap

can depend on the amount we are talking here.. withdrawal a large sum can flag a hold to PP.. a few hundred should be OK
