They cannot see the address

So long as they don't try to withdraw funds from the bank account they wont be able to see the name

Ok thanks. Is it dangerous to have a different name on the PP account to the bank account? Or do paypal not really care about that?

NO they cant, unless you go overdrawn in PP and they request a withdrawal from your connecting bank

Yes, most people on here have different bank and PayPal account names.

PayPal can only see the name on the bank account if you move money from the bank to the Paypal.

This means you are free to send money from PayPal to your bank without problems.

If you add a savings account, you may get an error email after a few days. Just ignore it, and you'll still be able to withdraw with no problems.

Any more questions, just ask. Nothing dumb about asking to be sure rather than making a mistake.

Different names are fine. Make sure it is a stealth friendly bank, one that accepts mismatching names.

As far as I know only lloyds, tsb and possibly Halifax have had issues with mismatching name deposits

Any other major bank is reported as working.

Depends on the amount and in how good standing the account is.

If you have good internal and/or external credit history with the bank they may honour payments that would take you overdrawn.

Yes, But, If you've explicitly selected the no overdraft option then I can't see them taking an action that clearly goes against your express wishes

Re: Paypal and bank account details

Not requesting an overdraft is not an explicit instruction to dishonour all payments that would take the account overdrawn. Those accounts do exist, such as basic bank accounts.
Instructing a direct debit setup is, however, an explicit instruction. They can't set up a direct debit without your say-so.

Requesting an overdraft is an application for a line of credit to be extended to you. Just because you don't apply for that credit, doesn't mean you are instructing the bank to reject all payments that take you overdrawn.

In actual fact, almost all current accounts have a 'buffer' from £10 up. Whatever the limit of the buffer, all payment requests up to that limit will be approved.

It is possible that a direct debit may be honoured by a bank that would take the account overdrawn.

As a former banking industry 'insider', I'll be glad to any other bank account questions you may have.

Thanks.
