| GreenBean | 03-14-2009 07:33 PM | Super, Read the Means To An End List in the subscribers' section. UK banks are pretty much current. |
simple answer is no
not anymore |
| cortex | 03-19-2009 07:49 AM | I just opened up some lloyds current accounts...will these be any good for stealth accounts? |
yes the current account will work |
| cortex | 03-20-2009 03:21 AM | cheers buddy |
| GreenBean | 03-20-2009 06:45 AM | When selecting an account, try to look for one described as 'current', 'direct' or similar words. The main point is to be sure that any account will allow the Direct Debit mandate for those pesky paypal deposits:cheer:
In 98% of the UK banks, the info is on their website. It is a matter of looking or if necessary speaking to their customer service.:peace: |
| cortex | 03-20-2009 07:12 AM | thought as much. cheers.
PS we got Chelsea in the draw :P |
| GreenBean | 03-20-2009 07:19 AM | Saver accounts are finished now:croc:
ps: :bounce:Bring it on!:cheer::cheer: |
| y_me? | 08-13-2009 08:47 AM | Hi,
I have been using a natwest savers account for almost a year. After a suspension I found this forum and followed all the precious info and had no problems since. However I had not looked here for a while as had too many things on the go. I know this discussion is a little old but I am a bit concerned as supersella123 mentioned natwest does not work any longer. Does this mean that I will have problems eventually?
If anybody reads this, I would appreciate any advice offered.
Thanks in advance |
| getaroundebay | 08-13-2009 08:52 AM | If PayPal didn't withdraw the bank account citing various different reasons then you should be OK. |
| y_me? | 08-13-2009 09:05 AM | Thank you so much getaroundebay for response. i was very concerned. Had not transferred money into bank account for a while and was afraid after reading this thread.
Thanks again |
| getaroundebay | 08-13-2009 09:09 AM | Whenever I add a saving account, it gets me verified, then 2 days later it gets withdrawn.
If it is still on, I wouldnt worry too much.
Although in an email from PayPal, I was told that they no longer accept savings accounts and it must be a current account (we all knew that anyway) but why don't they remove the savings account box on the DD instruction? |
| y_me? | 08-13-2009 09:15 AM | Good question, as it is still there had not thought much of it. Untill I found this thead......... |
| getaroundebay | 08-13-2009 09:16 AM | Well if you are at all worried, get another bank account.
If the account is worth it, why not? |
| y_me? | 08-13-2009 09:22 AM | Will do. I might get a lloyds or hsbc. Which is better in your opinion?
Can I add it without causing my self problems to the current PP account?
Provided of course that I give allthe same info?
sorry for the 1001 questions.
thanks again for your help |
| captainjack1980 | 08-13-2009 09:26 AM | lloyds are to be avoided if you are going full stealth... it has been noted repeatedly that they are sharing info (namely the name on your account) with paypal. If you are using your real name (or a close variation) then lloyds will be fine - I have a silver vantage account I use with Paypal (great for the interest on high balances).
I think HSBC have similar issues.
I recommend Abbey - you can open as many current accounts as you like with them. Their CS is pretty schocking though lol.

| captainjack1980 | 08-13-2009 09:28 AM | PS. I have never had any problems with Natwest either. Their step account is a good basic account and so is their current (though they don't pay interest and maestro is ****e).

| y_me? | 08-13-2009 09:34 AM | Thank you for all that info captainjack1980!!
Will not ignore it. I know natwest are ok. But already have a step account iwth them, and at the moment I'm using their savers account that's why I was concerned as supersella123 mentioned that their savers accounts were working anymore. I've not had any problems but was concerned I might have soon...
I mentioned lloyds as I'd read somewhere on the forum that they were ok. Obviously not
thanks again |
| y_me? | 08-13-2009 09:38 AM | sorry again, is your silver vantage account from lloyds? If so would not work for me, I presume, as my account is full stealth |
| captainjack1980 | 08-13-2009 09:42 AM | No probably not a good idea if you are full stealth.
I have found Abbey, Natwest, Halifax, A&L and Nationwide OK for full stealth accounts.

| y_me? | 08-13-2009 10:01 AM | Thanks for this info captainjack1980. Very useful
thanks for your time, much appreciated |
| adam30 | 09-23-2009 02:21 PM | Sorry to be so thick but just to confirm is abbey E saver okay for full stealth or is that also down the toilet? |
| oompaloompa | 09-23-2009 02:53 PM | for the savers that DO work, are there not minimum initial balances or minimum regular amounts that need to be paid in to keep them going? Apart from for people that have too many banks account or cant open for credit reasons, what other advantages are there? |

I think you are referring to the Abbey Basic Account. This is a standard bank account - not a savings account. However, it is extremely easy to open and as you say, you get the account number the same day. |

| SoulStorm | 10-14-2009 11:03 AM | Hi There.
I can confirm a SAVINGS account that works 100% with paypal in the UK.
I have been using it now for the past month with no problem, and they accept direct debits.
You nopen the account online at http: Credit Cards | Saving Accounts | Insurance | Egg (yes, it is a bank with a wierd name, egg banking. lol) |
it a bond account
it says you take any money out for 2 years or you get charged |

If you are referring to the EGG banking account, that is not correct. There are a few different accounts on offer, and the standard savings account has no restrictions like that |
| brownlad | 10-15-2009 11:36 AM | how about IGN saver accounts, iver heard they work |
| brownlad | 10-15-2009 12:09 PM | sorry i mean ING |

I have just tried to add an Egg Savings Account to a PP account and PP won't allow it saying these accounts do not allow the direct debit mandate.
Maybe your account is a current one? |
| GreenBean | 10-27-2009 02:21 AM | Be careful with the names used to describe bank accounts. For stealth, we are looking for 'basic' 'current' 'key' amongst the names AND the need for the Direct Debit Mandate :ranger:
] |
| captainjack1980 | 10-27-2009 03:25 AM | I also tried..... the account allows you to issue the direct debit mandate to an external account but Egg have confirmed it will not accept incoming mandates. The same with the UK version of ING.
Egg don't offer full current accounts.
