Please Register for Managed Payments by December 31

I just got this email from eBay in my messages.

“Dear ********,
Managed payments is essential to enhancing the buying and selling experience on eBay, providing sellers one place to sell and get paid, and buyers more ways to pay. eBay will manage payments for most of its marketplace sellers by 2021. Make sure you
register by
December 31, 2020 to ensure there’s no interruption to your account. Your account will be enabled starting January 2021.
Let’s get you registered in three simple steps:
1.
Verify your information
2.
Provide a checking account
3.
Don’t miss a beat and keep selling
Register now
During the registration process you can choose to add any checking account - whether existing or new. Please ensure that the name, address, and business information (if applicable) on your checking account matches the name and information on your eBay account.
Running your business is simpler when eBay manages your payments, and buyers have new ways to pay:
Simpler to sell
Checkout is more flexible, with an easier experience for buyers
Simpler to get paid
Funds are more accessible, with automatic payouts direct to your bank account
Simpler to manage
Operations run smoother, with simplified fees, integrated reporting and direct support
Once you register, nothing will change until eBay activates your account starting in January
. We will notify you of your activation date in advance, and will be sharing more information about the change, how it will benefit your business, and how to take full advantage of our simpler approach to payments.
For more information and answers to FAQs about managed payments, please visit the
eBay Seller Center
. Watch a short video on registration
here
, or find additional details on the Help Hub
here
. If you still have questions, you can request a call from one of our Payments team members there - we’re here for you.
Please
click here to register for managed payments
now.
*Please disregard this message if you have already registered for managed payments.*”

Ok so my question is, do I HAVE to register for managed payments by then? What will happen if I don’t? I’ve seen that people got that email back in July and they just kept selling correct?

I just wondering what the process is and what will happen if I don’t? I’m pretty upset this is my best account, not like super seller but fully stealth and 300+ positive feedback and I’ve been piecing out a toy train collection and now I’m worried I won’t be able to keep selling anymore.

Anyone have suggestions or comments on what has happened with them? Thanks!

I have a friend who can't revise listings, but still is able to change quantity and they asked him back in July.

So....what’s the consensus? And no there’s not any existing threads at all about this new January 1 email

The consensus is, if you have enough stealth accounts, you likely won't receive such an email until the end of the MP requirement. Because your sales will be so spread out.

Re: Please Register for Managed Payments by December 31

Do you think this is the end of the requirement?

I have not gotten any MP emails in any of my accounts... is that because I rotate my accounts so much that I don't make a ton per account?

yes, it's definitely $$$ and or item sales related. Most are either top rated or close to it. I have a few good accounts like this, that probably are early next year borderline.. Which should be interesting.

Re: Please Register for Managed Payments by December 31

So that means non top rated accounts will stick to PP like mine.

The theory of having a listing in an MP prohibited category may also work.

I have 4 stealth accounts all top rated and doing a similar number of transactions and revenue. One account was forced into MP earlier this year. Since then on my other three I have sold a couple gift cards and currently have a low valued gift card listed for a stupidly high price and so far none have gotten invited to MP.

Your accounts may be towards the end of the transition, but unless eBay backs down from their propaganda that all accounts are moving to MP, at some point your accounts are going to get MP'd.

Woh so gift card could possibly block it? may have to post some amazon gift cards for the scammers to buy lol

There's a list "prohibited categories" that currently aren't allowed on MP, gift cards is one of them. Theory is that having sales/listings in a prohibited category will at least delay your indoctrination into MP. It's in one of the other MP threads somewhere.

That is really strange. I'd say you're better off the rest of us.

We have (limits lifted) accounts that are semi-dormant. Many of these have been getting constant reminders:
"John Doe, it’s time for eBay to manage your payments"

These accounts are not being used, but we sell 10 to 20 low-value items per year to keep sales history live.
:noidea:

Interesting hah.

I am in the same boat so far with SaiJin: "So that means non top rated accounts will stick to PP like mine."

I haven't sold anything major to get invited to management payments I don't think? It is about a 5 year old account, sold maybe 100 items total this year none high risk?

Re: Please Register for Managed Payments by December 31

Also if you sell very cheap items under $5 ...

Re: Please Register for Managed Payments by December 31

I posted a gift card yesterday. Worth a chance, this account is solid, but never know someone could buy my $50 amazon gift card for $80 lol

Be prepared for messages asking you what kind of crack you're smoking. I've been getting one a week.

Re: Please Register for Managed Payments by December 31

I dont think is a "volume of sales" issue as I had a MP email to upgrade for before the 18th of January on a stealth account with next to no sales. Definitely under 20.

Must be a lottery then. If you're selected for MP go and play some numbers on the euromillions
