SSN Issue
 

I just got the notice that on the 15th of June eBay will remove my listings if I don't migrate to their managed payments. I have a US eBay account however I'm not a US citizen so I don't have a SSN. I do however have a US bank account from the time I used to live in the US. Am I SOL or is there a way around this? I also have a US PayPal account and they don't require a SSN until you hit $20k worth of annual sales so I don't see why eBay managed payments is asking for this when I don't even come close to that amount.

Because they are switching all accounts to MP eventually.

You have no choice but to change to MP.
There's a thread dedicated to MP in the forum's eBay section I recommend you participate.

I'm aware they are switching all accounts to MP, I've been delaying this as long as possible but it looks like the 15th will really be the deadline for me. It's a real account, I just don't have an SSN though ... got a link to the thread?

No way around it, eventually you'll need to provide them some sort of tax ID

It turned out the 15th of June dead line was a bluff but they have indeed removed my listings as of now. I was going through the MP sign up process and I see it only asks the last four digits of an SSN, can I throw in any four random digits and expect it to work? I don't do more than 200 transactions or $20k in sales.

Also would it be better to downgrade my eBay account from business to personal before going ahead? I'm not a business, the only reason I had an eBay "business" account was for the seller hub that made handling listings easier.

They are only asking for your last 4 digits because you have a business account. As a business, you'll need a verifiable real EIN, and once you continue further in the MP sign-up, you'll need a real full SSN,matching DOB, etc (business owners personal information). Anything ⊗⊗⊗⊗ will result in your immediate suspension.
For US Ebay accounts, it's either live in the US or have lots and lots of connections in the US.
This purge of getting foreigners off the US Ebay platform has been going on for a couple of years, first with the start of PayPal cash accounts (you couldn't spend your money, just withdraw it to a US bank), now with MP, it's the final nail in the coffin.
I personally couldn't be happier as foreign sellers made up the bulk of scams, long delivery times, poor quality knock-offs and horrible service here in the US. Customers got turned off, which affected US sellers like me giving great service and trying to make a living.

come 2022,it is not 20 transactions AND $20K,it is a lot less ,like $600 for federal reporting.
Then there is state tax ebay is collecting sales tax for you and remit to the buyer state,and you being a US Ebay seller,could be audited by the state for state income tax

No,he was in USA in the past,thats how he got a US bank account.

Check into getting a Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Then you can get an EIN instead of a social security number
