can i open an ebay account on ebay US without a SSN?
 

i got banned permanently on ebay.im from spain. I had accounts in ebay spain and uk and got banned after running 4shops through several accounts of mine during 5 years. all beacuse i had a problem with one account, so it affected all others. this was in 2021. i would like to get back on ebay for selling second hand items. my question is, i have a bank account in the US, on my name. but the bank account name only has 2 words of my full name because when the banker opened the account, he thought the full name is too long so he put only 2 words. my passport name is 5 words. do i stand a chance of getting back into ebay and them accepting my US bank account without a SSN? i don't have a ssn, only a normal bank account.

also because by the time i got banned, ebay didn't require ID. i believe now they do but they never had my id from before and if i was to open a new ebay on the US site, it would be all US details except the phone number and new ip address too so let me know

OP, your situation about bank account acceptance on eb seems fine because it is a us bank that was made with your ID - the question however is will you be creating en eb account in your real details and have ID ready for when/if eb asks for ID?

I havent created eb accounts lately but most of my stealth ones are still existing well with stealth us bank account info...I haven't been asked for bank statements etc.

My sale volumes are low though and very niche.

why dont you go to Ebay and try to open an account and see what it takes ,vaguely when I open an account for my mother,it asks if she is US citizen/permanent resident,physical address ,SSN,DOB,THEN they want a copy of her SSN back and front

ebay do not allow to use foreign phone number even if such a number is placed on file no SMS will be arriving

if you are from spain forget USA and open local accounts

She can still sell on Ebay USA like UK,AUSSIE,Canadian sellers,she just have to pay a listing fee.
question-
if she does manage to open a US based seller account,what would be her return address?where would customer return her item to?

Could use one of the mailforwarding post box serves that can accept mail, etc but there are fees involved.

i would be shipping items from spain and would state spain location in the listing so return address is spain

i dont think i would need that. even though i dont live in the US, i could use my bank registered address from when i opened that bank account. ebay doesn't send letters or paperwork anyway so it doesn't matter, but if you are referring to address for return purposes, that would be my spain address since i will ship items from spain and i will state spain location in the listing

not true. before i got banned in 2021, i had ebay accounts in ebay spain and uk, and my same sim across all accounts which is a uk sim. im able to receive sms regardless where in the world i am. when i was managing my ebay shops in ebay spain and uk, sometimes i was travelling in asia and if i needed to receive a sms for security purposes, from ebay, it arrived without issues. and ebay doesn't care what country you are logging in from. only if you have been permanently banned like me, what matters is that you don't ever login again from any of the previous ip addresses you used before

yes it's since 2022. i haven't had any problems with it. it still had an old airbnb address that is were i was staying that time. i can login to it from spain or any country without problems. but i don't have a ssn or tax payer id because i was a tourist only when i was in the us.

Right - so maybe register in spain then log onto ebay usa to sell...one approach

no one cares what was going on before you got banned , ebay do not accept foreign cellphone numbers. even if you manage to put such a number on file it will not be working in case you get locked out as ebay won't be sending SMS there
