| Isparana | 08-08-2009 10:20 AM | Isparana-Newbie with problem I have received a letter from Gibney, Anthony & Flaherty, LLP stating that I have sold infringement jerseys on e-bay and they want $950 by 8/14/09.
All my jerseys were made in Korea, the tags read REEBOK, stated authentic, the pictures were my own, and I used my own discriptions. In no way did I deceive anybody by showing one thing and sending another. I have 100% feedback and now I'm scared. |
| Vicvelcro | 08-08-2009 12:01 PM | Was it sent certified and registered requiring your signature for delivery? Does it say your full legal name? |
| Isparana | 08-08-2009 02:40 PM | I have not received the letter yet. Just an e-mail. |
| Vicvelcro | 08-08-2009 03:04 PM | email is not a legal method of serving process.
You may freely ignore them as they have no recourse. You could even prosecute them for threats and for fraud, if you really wanted to invest the time and effort.
What THEY are doing is illegal. |
Could be fraudelent email from some Ebay member who found out your email address. The real law firm would never email you first asking for money or damages.
I'd say its a fraudelent email and best to ignore it. |
| Vicvelcro | 08-08-2009 04:15 PM | ^^^^^^
Um, yeah. That too.
<wink> |
;) back too, Vic. Wonder if she can tell by email hosting... Probably something like: GAF,LLP @ hotmail.com......... |
| Vicvelcro | 08-08-2009 04:32 PM | The mail header would reveal a lot, but sometimes it gets stripped before the user gets the change to examine it. |
Really? Mine get changed, sometimes just telling you the name of the person sending email..but, if you click on this-name link in the body of your email and than right click and look under "Properties", it will reveal exactly the email account name it came from... |
| Isparana | 08-08-2009 04:54 PM | Do you want me to post what they sent me? |
| Vicvelcro | 08-08-2009 05:05 PM | If you want to post it, that's cool. Just make sure you mask out any personal info that reveals your identity. Review it carefully before you put it up here. |
| Isparana | 08-08-2009 05:07 PM | I tried to copy it but all of it turns blue, not just each line. If you e-mail me, I will forward it to you to check out. It has no personal information. |
| Vicvelcro | 08-08-2009 05:09 PM | My email is listed in my profile. Just click my name, view profile, choose the contact tab, and there I am. |
| Isparana | 08-08-2009 05:24 PM | Done. I'm making dinner now so I'll be checking back... |
Don't worry and just enjoy your dinner..:) |
| Vicvelcro | 08-08-2009 07:00 PM | If you sent anything direct to me, it has not arrived.
Just in case, the email I use for general forum stuff is totala.project@gmail.com Quote:

| Vicvelcro | 08-08-2009 07:35 PM | Received. Reply sent via email. |
| bluemoon999 | 08-08-2009 07:36 PM | Try digging out the IP address of that email message, then research that IP online, if that IP location belongs to one of the following cities, then that email is real. Otherwise, ignore it and have a nice sleep.

| Isparana | 08-08-2009 07:50 PM | Where do I find the IP address info that I need. Bet you knew that was coming.... |
| bluemoon999 | 08-08-2009 08:02 PM | Just google it online. A lot of websites give you detail step by step instruction. it's a very common little technique you should learn. |
| Vicvelcro | 08-08-2009 08:03 PM | It will be buried in the mail header. If you use gmail, click the little arrow in the corner next to 'reply' and choose 'show original'.
For other mail servers, the process varies. |
| bluemoon999 | 08-08-2009 08:09 PM | Just google it online. There are lots of sites that tell people how to see it. It's a very common technique people should learn and use it when it's necessary. |
| Isparana | 08-08-2009 08:22 PM | I'm on it...and thanks to all of you. I will print this out when this is all said and done and keep the knowledge for future posters.... |
| GreenBean | 08-08-2009 08:33 PM | I can also recommend that you read this site Tabberone. Great fabrics and collectibles. She is a member of the forum. Her knowledge of these matters is really deep. I suggest you contact her off the forum: that way your privacy is kept. She has often helped users from here with her knowledge. :peace: |
| Isparana | 08-08-2009 08:34 PM | IF I found the IP address correctly, its from Oregon. On another IP search it came up Colorado which is the next state over. |
| Isparana | 08-08-2009 08:46 PM | She's the one I started with and she pointed me to this site. Bought the book, and very thankful for her and the rest of you.... |
| Isparana | 08-08-2009 09:42 PM | I was scared, but now I'm angered and lookin' to smash. I found this....

There were 13 pages of people in the same boat. It's a scare tactic by the same guy that sent me the letter. A John Malcusly (sp). Nothing came of any of the letters sent out. It is interesting reading. Once I get back on e-bay, I'm playing the game and playing hard. |
Good for you Isparana. Just remember that most such emails requesting your money directly or indirectly are most likely scams, and just proceed with caution. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 03:53 AM. | |
